Members Reviews:
Patriot Deception is a real page-turner
I've known author Ross Elder for some time now and I've read his previous work and loved it. His writing style is quite engaging. Though this novel is a step above. This one is a real page-turner. I totally recommend Patriot Deception to my readers and anyone else. Elder can write and I'll keep an eye out for any new releases.

Which I strongly recommend everyone read prior to this excellent novel
I was so excited to hear about this book. I've read several of Mr. Elder's blog articles, including the non-fiction, investigative series by the same title...Which I strongly recommend everyone read prior to this excellent novel...
I don't even know what people consider "spoilers", so I guess don't read my review because maybe I'll tell someone something they wish they'd got from the book...Seriously. Just stop here if you don't want it to be ruined: It's fun, unique, exciting, and absorbing. Read it.
This was an absorbing, exciting introduction to what promises to be a fantastic series.
I kind of thought of the main character's emergence from a coma as almost metaphorical for anyone who chooses to learn about the real "patriot deception"...a kind of awakening to what is really going on in what they believe to be patriotic, conservative "news" sources and current event coverage... The story of Mason McCall is also still emerging, as I feel this real patriot deception is...maybe I'm being too dramatic, but that's just how I saw it.
I found myself totally absorbed and fascinated by this premise of the coma, how it came to be, and what he discovered about himself as he begins to heal and awaken...
The constant feeling of being watched, followed, chased...or that Mason needs to escape but doesn't know why makes you squirm and read intensely to try to find out what is going to happen next..."edge of your seat"...
As with the other work I've read of his, the story is peppered with Mr. Elder's dry and kind of dark humor, which I love. It also has some sexy stuff, which I also love. Although I didn't trust that nurse from the beginning. What nurse makes out with her patient the first night she is assigned to him??? Probably every man's dream nurse. hahaha!
Details in writing are important to me. My favorite authors are great on including details but not dragging on and on...It seems Mr. Elder has found the perfect balance here. I really like the descriptions of everything from the "awakening", to the dual living quarters, to the characters. I especially love the details in the action scenes and violent scenes. But I don't find myself thinking, "I get it. Let's move on." as I have in other books. Maybe a little bit of, "Oh...I wish he spent more time there..." But not anything truly detracting or negative.
All in all, this book made me anxious for the next installment in the series.
