Publisher's Summary:
A prominent politician, and close friend of the Prime Minister, has died during routine heart surgery. Is this simply a case of extreme medical negligence or are more complex events unfolding?
The year is 2030.
Advanced robotic systems are commonly utilized for surgery in the National Health Service. Mortality and complication rates are non-existent, even in operations that were once considered perilous.
Join Professor Daniyaal Ashraf, a prominent surgeon, as he teams up with the General Medical Council, Scotland Yard and GCHQ to stop the culprit, before more innocent lives come to harm. His fast-paced journey will take you through a maze of medical fiction ground in scientific reality, leading to the inevitable debate about the future of medicine and the National Health Service.

Members Reviews:
A 'Factitious' WhoDunnit...
What did you like most about The Surgeon?
I loved how (very) near-future faction this is. These questions need posing and answering now. Not when we arrive at the scenarios described. Very thought provoking and quite unlike the jacket and title may suggest (for me this was a good thing).
Who was your favorite character and why?
Professor Ash, whilst Tanya is interesting, we only really get time enough in this novel to get to know Dan (Prof. Daniyaal Ashraf). Why? Because I truly hope he - or at least many like him - will be around to raise and face the issues this story brings to light.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The A.I.'s view of the 3 Laws of Robotics.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm...
Any additional comments?
What a voice! I've heard Mr DeVay before, but his style of delivery fits this exactly... His credible delivery comes in precisely the manner in which I'd wish to receive medical advice, instructions, news, etc.

The Future is Here!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Surgeon to be better than the print version?
I don't know if "better" is appropriate. It's the old "apples & oranges" comparison dilemma... They're both fruits and yet completely different. It's unabridged; so, there's no lack of content and you can't read a book whilst driving a car.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Surgeon?
-=! Spoiler Alert !=- the A.I.'s response to Asimov's 3 Laws...
Which character as performed by Simon Blood DeVay was your favourite?
Our protagonist, as it's not an ensemble piece.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I Think, Therefore...
Any additional comments?
I found this really thought provoking. Advanced A.I.s are almost upon us and the issues raised in this fiction (it won't be fiction for long, I'm sure) must be faced/resolved before deus ex machine decides we're superfluous!...
