Peter Dutton flags the return of the business lunch
Update: 2025-01-19
Description
Mike is joined by Luke Achterstraat, Executive Director of Small Business Australia, to discuss Peter Dutton's proposal to reintroduce taxpayer-funded business lunches, which offers small businesses a yearly tax deduction of up to $20,000 for client and employee meals at restaurants, cafes, and pubs—alcohol excluded.
Achterstraat addresses the plan’s potential to boost local economies, reward employees, and alleviate challenges faced by hospitality businesses, which are struggling under rising costs.
The Hawke government cracked down on boozy lunches through the fringe benefits tax in 1986.
