Pizza Prices Soar, Subway Fare Increases
Update: 2025-12-29
Description
The pizza principle, a longstanding New York City tradition where a slice of pizza cost around the same as a subway ride, is crumbling. With the subway fare rising to $3 on January 4th and the average slice now costing nearly $4, the pizza principle is no longer holding true. Inflation post-COVID has driven pizza prices up, with the typical plain slice climbing from $2.54 in 2014 to $3.81 today. Pizzeria owners are feeling the pinch, with some slices now costing over $5. Despite this, the MTAs fare remains relatively cheap compared to private businesses hit by rising costs. Checkout Solipillow.com
