🔧 PRODUCT EDUCATION SPOTLIGHT

🔩 Eye Nuts – Avoid Bolt Size Confusion

Eye nuts are included in wind/seismic restraint kits, but confusion often arises over bolt sizing.

  • What’s stamped on the eye nut (e.g., 7/8”) = Bail size, NOT bolt size. (The term "bail size" on an eye nut refers to the inside diameter or width of the eyelet opening, which is the circular loop at the top of the nut.)

  • Correct bolt = 1/8” larger than stamped bail (e.g., use a 1” bolt for a 7/8” bail).

  • 📎 Contractors must provide their own anchor bolts.

  • đź“„ Specs are in the installation data sheet.

  • 📸 Find photos on P3 → Media → Installed Photos → Search: Eye Nut

🧰 Spool Fittings – Understand the Two Types

There are two categories of spool fittings:

  1. 6” and Under (Made In-House)

    1. Components: Two flanges + pipe

    2. Not welded or gusseted

    3. Standard projection: ~6.5”

    4. Easily trimmed for custom fit

  2. 8” and Larger (Vendor-Fabricated)

    1. Welded, gusseted, and pre-assembled

    2. Standard projection: ~12–13”

    3. Custom projections available upon request (adds time & quote steps)

âś… All standard projections are listed on the drafting drawings.

📌 For non-standard dimensions, communicate needs early to avoid delays.

đź›  FIELD SERVICE INSIGHTS

With Ashley Hay, Field Service Coordinator

⚠️ Common Issues from the Field

  1. Tank Cracks from Rigid Connections

❌ Most cracks result from lack of flexible connectionsat the lower third sidewall fittings.

✅ Always use expansion jointsor flexible connectors as shown in the IOM Manual.

  2. Venting Mistakes Still Happen

    đźš« Issues from:

  • Undersized main vent lines for multiple tanks

  • Long runs with too many bends or screens at terminations

  • Lack of communication about fill method (gravity vs pneumatic)

âś… Each tank should ideally have its own dedicated vent.
