About I, The Mountain from my intro to the show: What started out as a group of three Matts has turned into a five member indie folk band that combines amazing harmonies with driving beats to reflect on the beauty of life. The three Matt version of the band release two EP’s in 2013 titled, “Land & Sea” and “Two Birds.” Those EP’s unknowingly began their musical identity as a band that uses imagery in nature as a metaphor for love and life. The group of three would eventually add Allison and Rory to the mix and then in 2019, began releasing a series of singles that would be on their first full album. Though that album, “Little Wild,” was released in the pandemic in 2020, it didn’t slow them down. Music from that album was featured on CBC in Canada and when they weren’t able to ply the planned live shows, they continued on with a virtual tour where they were joined by other local bands in cities from around the region. They were also featured in the Blue Sky Music Festival in 2020 which was also virtual. Since then, they have released two more singles, “Coal Mine” and “Wildflowers.”
Matt Rappolt, Allison Dyjach, and Rory McLachlin streamed into the show for the interview. After talking about the how the band got started, we discussed some of their IG promotions, managing time on social media, their future plans for live shows, and their next album. They premiered their newest single, “Houseplant” on the show which will be officially release August 6th. We discussed the playlist theme of Favorite Nature Songs which highlights the band’s passion for the outdoors.
