Red Sox Acquire Oviedo, Trade Garcia
Update: 2025-12-05
Description
The Boston Red Sox strengthened their pitching staff by acquiring Johan Oviedo from the Pittsburgh Pirates, along with left-handed pitcher Tyler Samaniego and catcher Adonys Guzman. In return, they sent prospect Jhostynxon Garcia and right-handed pitcher Jesus Travieso to Pittsburgh. Oviedo, a 26-year-old right-hander, has two years of team control and posted a 3.57 ERA in nine starts last season. The Red Soxs rotation now features a mix of established pitchers and younger talent, but both Oviedo and Patrick Sandoval are recovering from injuries. The Pirates gained Garcia, a 22-year-old power hitter, who could make an immediate impact in their lineup.
