Regulating Screen-Time
Description
In the tenth episode, hosts Dr Meghna and Devishobha reflect on family life in the age of technology. Nothing has reshaped our communication, our relationships, and our lives more than digital devices in the 21st century.
The hosts discuss why screens have taken over our lives, and what research tells us about the effects of screens on children’s brain development. Abundant research warns us about the harmful effects of the overuse of gadgets on our children, and our relationships.
BUT can we even imagine our world without these gadgets?!
The hosts share strategies on how to balance screen time and family time.
Big Talk About Tiny Humans is India’s first research-based podcast for parenting and educators, hosted by Devishobha Chandramouli and Dr Meghna. Visit https://ivm.today/tinyhumans to learn more about the show.
In Episode 10, the hosts discuss the effects of excessive screen time (excessive as defined by the American Association of Paediatrics) on children and even adults.
The hosts share their guidelines for regulating your children’s screen-time: TIME. T= Timebox (restrict screen-time and co-view)
I= Isolate (gadget-free zones and gadget-free times)
M= Model (restricting your own use)
E= Emphasise basics (sleep, nutrition, exercise)
Balance looks different in different families. How you apply the TIME strategies will depend on your own unique family context.
