Repentance and Faith Part 2
Description
Gospel Foundations Course – 4b
DESCRIPTION
This class will unpack the central controversy in the New Testament Scriptures – how one attains to the kingdom and the resurrection. We will dive in the OT Scriptures as well as Jewish inter-testamental literature to find what the Apostles and earliest believers thought was happening with the proclamation of the Gospel to the Gentiles.

Repentance and Faith
SUFFERING BEFORE GLORY
SUFFERING BEFORE GLORY
A.The Messiah Had To Suffer Before Entering His Glory
27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. (Heb 9:27 –28 NIV)
10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that would come to you searched and carefully investigated. 11 They inquired into what time or what circumstances the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when He testified in advance to the messianic sufferings and the glories that would follow… 13 Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be serious and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Pe 1:10 –13 HCSB)
25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. (Lk 24:25 –27 NIV)
DEPRAVITY OF ALL MEN
DEPRAVITY OF ALL MEN
A. Early Witness
5 The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. (Gen 6:5 NIV)
21 The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. (Ge 8:21 NIV)
B. Eschatological Witness
9 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; 10 as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one; 11 There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God; 12 All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one.” 13 “Their throat is an open grave, With their tongues they keep deceiving,” “The poison of asps is under their lips”; 14 “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”; 15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood, 16 Destruction and misery are in their paths, 17 And the path of peace they have not known.” 18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” 19 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; (Ro 3:9–19 NASB95) [1]
C. Man’s Desire For Self-governance And Boasting
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. (Ge 3:4–6 NIV)
- 3 You turn man back into dust And say, “Return, O children of men.”… 7 For we have been consumed by Your anger And by Your wrath we have been dismayed. 8 You have placed our iniquities before You, Our secret sins in the light of Your presence. (Ps 90:3–8 NASB95)
1 “All the commandments that I am commanding you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and
