Replacing Fear as Your Motivator
Description
This episode: Fear is a crap motivator.
When I feel fear, I rarely want to then go after what I think needs to get done.
And fear as a motivator is almost always for something that I didn’t want to do in the first place or isn’t satisfying.
Then why do I use it?
Because other people used it on me to motivate me to do what they wanted me to do. So, I witnessed from those experiences that it was a powerful motivator…for doing things I didn’t want to do.
And in doing so, losing my own personal connection to it being motivated by other things like fun, joy, interest, vitality, ie: good feelings.
I find that I’m better motivated when I can find the aspects of that task that I DO want, that I DO resonate with.
And I can always find those things.
So fear is not necessary even for the things I find I must do.
I’m making it a point to prove to myself that in every part of my life, there is a better, more sustainable, more effective motivator than fear.
I am making it my dominant intention to first go find the feeling I believe this “thing” will bring me in the having or doing of it.
Then I go about connecting to that feeling first, allowing my actions to then be motivated by the feeling and the desire to stay in that feeling.
