Q&A

  • What was the biggest challenge you faced after retiring from professional cycling?

The biggest challenge was losing my identity as a cyclist and feeling lost about my purpose in life. It was a difficult transition, and I went through a period of trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted to do with my life.

  • How did you overcome the identity crisis and find a new path?

I started exploring different options, including applying for jobs and pursuing a career in sports management. However, I realized that I needed something more fulfilling and that I had entrepreneurial tendencies. Reading "The 4-Hour Workweek" by Tim Ferriss sparked my interest in business, and I saw it as a new sport to compete in.

  • What is the most important lesson you've learned from your experiences in both sports and business?

The most important lesson is that everything is earned, not owed. You have to put in the work, be resilient, and have a long-term perspective. There are no shortcuts to success, and you have to be willing to embrace challenges and learn from your failures.

  • How has your mindset changed this year, and what has led to your incredible results?

I've learned to remove ego and focus on doing the right things for the long term. I've extended my time horizon, fallen back in love with the product, and prioritized my health and family. This holistic approach has created a more fulfilling and successful business environment.

  • What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?

Ask yourself "what happens if this goes right?" and be prepared to embrace the opportunities that come your way. Don't be afraid to take risks, but also prioritize your health and well-being. Surround yourself with supportive people, but learn to filter advice and make decisions that align with your vision.

  • How did you manage to let go of your ego during the rebranding process?

I realized that the brand belonged to the customers and the team, not just me. This shift allowed me to delegate and bring in people who were better than me.

  • What advice would you give to entrepreneurs facing legal challenges?

Build resilience by having a network of support and learning from others who have faced similar challenges. Remember that what seems like a death blow often isn't.

  • How do you balance your time between running a business and raising a family?

I've had to redefine what work means for me. It's not about being hands-on all the time, but about being in the best mindset to have good ideas. I focus on strategic thinking and delegate the day-to-day tasks.

  • What's the most important lesson you've learned about focus and simplicity in business?

Don't try to do too much. Maximize opportunities within your niche and avoid distractions. The power of focus is essential for achieving success.

  • How do you approach design to anticipate customer needs?

I've moved from a personal preference-driven approach to a more data-driven one. I focus on solving problems and understanding what customers truly want.
