Robotic reading buddies help struggling kids
Update: 2025-11-24
Description
One in three Australian children struggle to read, with fear of making mistakes or being ridiculed often holding them back from practising. Scientists at Flinders University are trialling AI-powered robotic reading buddies that provide a non-judgmental, approachable environment for children to develop their literacy skills. The robots are designed to be comforting and encouraging, helping young readers build confidence without the fear of criticism that can create a vicious cycle of poor engagement and declining reading ability.
