Description
San Diego City Attorneys Office Proposes $30 Million Settlement for Police Shooting of Konoa WilsonThe San Diego City Attorneys office has agreed to a potential $30 million settlement with the family of Konoa Wilson, a sixteen-year-old boy fatally shot by police in January. This proposed payment could be one of the largest in U.S. history for a police-involved killing. The familys attorney, Nick Rowley, described the incident as a catastrophic failure of policing, as Konoa was running for his life and not a threat or suspect when shot in the back. If approved, this settlement would surpass the $27 million paid by Minneapolis for George Floyds death. Surveillance footage shows Konoa running from a gunshot inside a train station, where he encountered Officer Daniel Gold, who allegedly shot him without announcing himself. The lawsuit claims Officer Gold only identified himself after shooting Konoa, who was Black. The settlement, if approved, will be paid from the citys Public Liability Fund.
