Season 1 – MC23: Now is All There is
Update: 2015-01-21
Description
Welcome to the Mindful 15: A short monthly episode (15 minutes or less) where I step out of the usual format and fly solo, sharing personal insights on self awareness and mindset development from my own journey as a creative entrepreneur.
In January’s Mindful 15, I dive deeper into the tension between right now and the future now, the struggle to focus on process instead of outcomes, and what it takes to step out of this tension and embrace the present moment.

Now is all there is.
In this Episode
* Shout out to Jenny and Music City Tea (not a sponsor, just a tea shop I love).
* The tension between our existing reality and the reality we desire at the end of that proverbial rainbow of success.
* An homage to presence and why it’s important for creative entrepreneurs to take a step back and gain a little perspective on a very important choice we all have to make at various stages of our journey: Focus and accept what is, or strive to build with our minds firmly trapped in the future.
* Why you don’t have to give up vision or goals to be present, and why an intense focus on the moment to moment actions is needed to have a shot at reaching the long term.
* The grueling nature of doing work that you can’t always see the fruit of.
* The struggle to rectify vision and the day to day grind. All the time.
* A couple of mindset shifts and approaches to help embrace the current now.
* The power of a simple daily practice of acceptance (reminding and reframing)
* Why it’s pointless to focus on outcomes that only exist in our heads.
* Reframing a daunting or challenging aspect of the work and finding the light in it (e.g. reframing lack of revenue in creative work to opportunity cost)
* Why most of our problems only exist in our minds, and how a physical shift in posture can help break the cycle of unconscious thinking.
* The power of remembering that right here is all there really is. Everything else is pure fiction.
* Why presence is tricky to understand/intellectualize.
* The importance of building your creative practice on the foundation of presence.
* A statement to help remind you of this: “I choose to step out of this creative tension by placing my attention on the moment, and only this moment.”
