Description

In Episode 32 of The Mindful Creator, I chat with my good friend Jonathan Mead, who is on a badass, soulful, and aligned mission to help people reconnect with their bodies and reclaim their primal strength through natural movement practices.

In today’s episode, Jonathan and I discuss the movement mindset and how feeling confident in our bodies can actually empower us to show up to our work.

In this Episode

* Jonathan shares his journey from the corporate world to starting his first personal development company – Paid to Exist  – and its subsequent evolution, and how the process of helping people uncover and take action on their passions landed him at Move Heroically.

* Jonathan talks about the surprising reactions after leveraging out of his successful business of 7+ years into what he thought would be an entirely blank slate.

* Jonathan talks about the process of realizing that his previous work wasn’t totally “lighting him up,” and how the process of becoming more embodied and driven from a heart-centered place helped him take the first step into his new focus.

* Why alignment has been Brett’s “word of the day” for the last two years, and how alignment between personal passion and the work that we do is often a missing piece of long-term growth.

* Jonathan talks about his experiences studying different spiritual paths and movement practices – including Jeet Kune Do, Gymnastics, Taoist Meditation, Tantra and Bodyweight Training, and Parkour – and how that has impacted his entrepreneurial journey.

* Jonathan: “How you move is how you show up.” -> “If your body is stagnant, then your mind is probably going to be stagnant as well.”

* Jonathan talks about using the Pomodoro Technique (link above) to blend focused, short bursts of work with movement breaks in between.

* Brett talks about his process of taking frequent breaks between shorter sprints of work (similar to Jonathan’s approach) and using single tasking to stay focused.

* How Jonathan uses variations in his posture during his work day – including using a standing desk and a low-coffee table – to keep his body from becoming too stagnant.

* Jonathan talks about a few of the core, sacred movement rituals that he does every day.

* The importance of remembering “why” as a grounding mechanism for Jonathan’s movement practice, and how that can translate to other aspects of our life.

* Why creating strong and connected rituals can help us show up in our day with confidence and remain anchored to the present moment/our why.

* Jonathan’s mantra: “Show up whether you feel like it or not.”

* Why our deeper motivation and connection to our purpose is easily overlooked as a critical component of how we show up in the world.
