Semaglutide Side Effects: A Closer Look
Update: 2025-12-17
Description
Semaglutide, a popular weight loss drug, has a lengthy list of common side effects, including nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and headaches. However, drug companies gather this data during short-term clinical trials, often missing long-term side effects. The way questions are asked in these trials can also influence reported side effects. For instance, diarrhea was reported in nine percent of Ozempic users but twenty-two to thirty percent of Wegovy users, despite both drugs being semaglutide. Interestingly, placebo groups in Ozempic trials reported diarrhea in two percent, while Wegovy trials saw sixteen to nineteen percent, a tenfold difference. These discrepancies make it challenging to determine actual side effect incidence. Patients should closely monitor their bodies and report any unusual symptoms to their prescriber.
