In this lesson we continue to examine the discipleship foundation Jesus outlined in the beatitudes contained in his Sermon on the Mount. Last time our focus was on poverty of spirit—recognizing that, on our own, we are nothing in the sight of God. That is when our spiritual eyes are opened and we discover that we are in a room without doorknobs. A room we constructed through our rebellion against God. Our sin has imprisoned us. If we are to escape, we will need outside help. We cannot free ourselves.
