Tesla's FSD: Hands-Free, Eyes-Free Driving on the Horizon
Update: 2025-12-09
Description
Teslas Full Self-Driving (FSD) software is on the brink of a major breakthrough, according to analyst Alexander Potter from Piper Sandler. The system could soon enable hands-free and eyes-free driving, with data from FSD Community Tracker showing a significant improvement in the miles to critical disengagement metric. After the release of FSD version fourteen point one point x, this number jumped from four hundred forty-one miles to over nine thousand miles, the biggest improvement in four years. The trackers data also suggests that an FSD-equipped car could go approximately three years without a crash, based on an average of thirteen thousand miles driven per year. While the latest version showed a slight dip in performance, analysts expect this to improve as more data is collected. This progress could pave the way for Teslas robotaxi tests in Austin to operate without safety drivers soon, highlighting the ongoing advancements in autonomous driving technology.
