Thai villagers flee intense Cambodia border fighting as border shelling enters third day
Update: 2025-12-10
Description
Thai border villages are nearly deserted due to intense cross-border shelling between Thailand and Cambodia. Most residents have evacuated, with only a few remaining farmers who must take shelter during barrages. One villager returned to find his home destroyed by a rocket. Locals report the current conflict is more intense than a flare-up earlier this year, which ended with a US-brokered peace accord. That accord has now collapsed, refilling emergency evacuation centres. Thailand states that peace requires a guarantee of its people's security, while villagers plead for a quick resolution.
