Description

How much do you value your privacy? Would you want the world to know your most private thoughts? If so, why? If not, why not? As most of the meditation practices reminds that we are not our thoughts, then why do we still feel attached to our thoughts? Regardless, how comfortable you’d be if all of your thoughts, behaviors and actions are on full display to the world. Personally I’d be super uncomfortable because as an evolving human, I’ll make plenty of mistakes and I don’t want the world to judge me based on that. It doesn’t mean that I’m shying away from responsibility, in fact as an introspective human I hold myself responsible for my life.

I believe that every individual has the right to privacy and they should be able to control their privacy. In the current digital age, the privacy is a luxury most of us can’t afford. From our search history to our media feeds, everything is to create a virtual personality of us. I think there are 3 layers of privacy : Public, Personal and Private. The difference between these layers are obvious, the public privacy is all the information about you in the public domain – your social media feed; the personal privacy pertains to the information you share with your family and peers – your personal conversations with friends and family; and the private privacy is the information which you keep it to yourself or choose to share with select few – your medical records.

As we embrace the digital technology, this model will protect us from privacy breach, although in the world of cybercrime none of these layers are relevant. But maybe as we course correct ourselves in the coming days by creating privacy focused technology, this model would help the world to respect individual privacy.
