Description

Neil Gaiman's children's book "Coraline," published in 2002, is a contemporary fairy tale with its fair share of dark, uneven edges. It is short but exquisitely nuanced on Afdah Movies. The title character is a young child whose parents are frequently preoccupied and don't always have time for her. However, she finds another family that initially appears to be an improvement; however, you can tell that this Other Mother and Father are not doing well because they have buttons stitched where their eyes should be. Even as an adult, "Coraline" reminds you that it's never too late to want to sleep with a light on. The marvel of Henry Selick's exquisite stop-motion animation adaptation of Neil Gaiman's book is that, despite its expansive nature, it manages to retain the eerie, unnerving elements of the original work.
