Description

Today, we discuss Bitcoin nodes, what are they and why should you setup one up. In particular, I discuss my recent transition from MyNode to Umbrel and the reasons why I made the move over.

Bitcoin nodes are servers that keep track of the network and are responsible for processing transactions. A node can be a computer, a cellular device, or even a piece of hardware like an ASIC miner.

A Bitcoin node does not require any fees to run and is open-source software that listens for incoming connections from other nodes on the network in much the same way as traditional outbound internet traffic would happen. As aforementioned, Bitcoin nodes provide many benefits such as privacy and increased efficiency although they do have their drawbacks too which this article discusses at hand. Understanding how to setup your own Bitcoin Node would be beneficial into both understanding how Bitcoin works as well as having some level of control about it's operation.
