I. Interview
Today’s guest has worked in various capacities within the firearms industry for the past decade. Specializing in sales, client relations and marketing, he currently serves as the Senior Development and Marketing Officer at Gun Owners of America. He is also the co-host of the State of the Second Podcast; please welcome John Fahrner to the show.
- Tell us how you first got into firearms? (How did you get into the Industry?)
- GOA is hosting the first annual GOALS event. Tell us what the goal (haha) of the event is? I'm also particularly interested in hearing about the technology and innovation panel discussion. (M - You are the moderator of this panel, what would you like to accomplish in this role?)
- A lot of your time in the gun industry was spent dealing with retail products. What made you decide to join Gun Owners of America? How has working for a pro gun lobby organization been different from retail? What are some of the unique challenges in this part of the industry?
- With all the challenges in appealing to pro 2A Americans through marketing and social media strategies. What should we pay attention to being restricted sooner, SEO and social media being restricted for firearms industry folks or the same style restrictions on the individual users? Who will be banned first, the industry or the people?
- You co-created the State of the Second podcast for GOA. What was the catalyst for its creation? Any particularly memorable guests or conversations?
What have been some of the challenges you have faced creating this type of content?
- Where do you see the 2A industry in 10 years? You think we will be over this next hump of individual state challenges (assault weapons bans, constitutional carry, background checks on ammo, and private sales.)
- Where can people find you

II. Run and Gun
- What is your favorite gun in your personal collection?
- What gun would you buy if money was no object?
- If you could have a drink with one person living or dead who would it be?
- Favorite caliber?
- Favorite hobby not gun related?
- If you could have one superpower what would it be?
- All hell breaks loose, is it better to be armed or trained?
- Is it better to be loved or feared?
- Rifle, pistol or shotgun
- You’re in the worst scenario imaginable, who do you want to have your back other than your spouse.
III. Let’s Mix It Up
Today on Let’s Mix It Up, we are going to discuss GOA's “No Compromise” Philosophy and why it’s important in the fight for the second amendment.
The GOA bills itself as the country's only “No Compromise” gun lobby organization. Can you tell us where that philosophy came from?
I understand this idea at face value, but can you give an example where another organization might compromise where GOA wouldn’t?
IV. Outro
John, thank you for coming on and discussing Gun Owners of America and all that they are doing as an organization to help bolster our second amendment rights. It’s nice to know that there is a “no compromise” organization such as GOA fighting for all of us in the firearms community. I’m a fan of the podcast and I love that you started GOAL and can’t wait to make it out there in the future. John, keep doing what you’re doing because you and your team are definitely moving the cultural needle in gun culture.
