Everyone focuses on speaking English and how to get expressions right. This leads to frequently asking natives if a particular expression is correct. But learning expression by expression in an isolated way wastes a ton of time. Good news! There is an aspect of English learning that, if you learn well, can help you form solid foundation to be able to answer those questions yourself. You can then have your own accurate gauge as to what is “right” and wrong. In fact, I would attribute a lot of my leveling up in English to working hard at this one craft.
