Publisher's Summary:
Orlando Pearson, Dr. Watson's successor as the assistant to Sherlock Holmes, was entrusted by the doctor with notes on cases too controversial to publish during Holmes's career.
The three complete stories in this volume were withheld respectively due to the threat they posed to national security, the disclosure of a scandal in a foreign Royal family, and the exposure of excessively close links between Government ministers and industry. Other stories, which are available online, highlighted such matters as Government failure to regulate the banks and some grotesque events in Camberwell.
It is obviously inconceivable that any of these issues could be of relevance in the better ordered 21st century, but these stories, freshly unearthed, provide a fascinating insight into some of the issues facing society at the turn of the 20th and right up to the early 1950's.

Not Bad But Not Overwhelming
This is a decent iouting although not an outstanding one. They are good for a one-time read but don't inspire much enthusiasm beyond that.

Tiny Tales of Holmes!
The Redacted Sherlock Holmes Volume 1 by Orlando Pearson
This is volume of short-short stories involving Sherlock Holmes in cases that may or may not have been able to take place, historically. The stories are presented as being written down by Doctor Watson, but withheld from publication for a number of reasons.
In these cases, names have not been changed or localities disguised. What transpires is faithfully recorded, let the chips fall where they may.
âThe Führer and His Deputiesâ
This tale explores the 1941 flight of Rudolph Hess (HeÎ) to Scotland. The case has always been shrouded in mystery and prone to several urban legends or conspiracy theories. This story adds yet another wrinkle into this twisted mysteryâ
âA Scandal in Nova Albaâ
The Thane of Cawder, (McBeth) comes to 221B to request assistance from Holmes of proving himself innocent of the murder of King Duncan at Dunsinane Castle. The Thane has been King for ten years, but uncrowned due to the suspicious circumstances of King Duncanâs demise. His Holiness the Pope will recognize the Thaneâs kingship if he can be cleared of suspicion. A nice twist on the Scottish Playâ
âThe Minister and the Mogulsâ
Mr. Lawler, code for Winston Churchill, comes to Baker Street with a strange case for Holmes. Lawler wants Holmes to find evidence of market collusion against the three major tobacco houses of Great BritainâJohn Vincent Hardenâs Commonwealth Tobacco, James Graceâs Thompsonâs Tobacco, (the big two,) and minor player International Tobacco.
The reason given is to force a tax penalty on the tobacco companies to offset a needed expenditure in the Naval Fleet. Holmes is involved in another case, so Watson will do the researchâ
They are interesting, these tiny gems. They will never be serious to Holmes purists, but are not bad for a quick read. I give the book three starsâ
Quoth the Ravenâ

Wretched rubbish.
Holmes stories are about rationality, but this miserable mess is infested with conspiracy theory rubbish.
The writer isn't too bad, but this nonsense spoils the book for me.
Ignore it.

Holmes and History--A Good Mix
As one who likes to place Sherlock Holmes in actual historical settings, I greatly enjoyed the three stories that make up Orlando Pearsonâs The Redacted Sherlock Holmes Vol. 1.
