Description

The team were happy to receive the Pixel 9 Pro for review. At this stage they have been playing around with the Pixel series since the 3rd iteration. In many ways the Pixel has come a long way in a short time period. You can see more about the various new Pixels here.
Pixel 9 Pro reviewed
The Pixel Pro, as opposed to the Pixel Pro XL, is a similar size to the 8 series. This works well, in previous iterations the phone began to get bigger. This soon reached the point where it became cumbersome and too big to fit comfortably in your pocket. The last thing you want to do is to bend or break it, or have it fall out of your pocket, and yes, we are speaking from experience having totalled one in this way.
The Pro has a slightly lower screen resolution than the XL, but nothing to make you unhappy, and it is probably unnoticeable, unless you had both lined up next to each other, which is course not going to be a typical usecase for anyone apart from a reviewer really.
The camera is, as Pixel now tends to be, pretty awesome. The ability to enhance, and, ahem, alter, change and rework photos is both cool and also perhaps, well is it problematic, or just indicative of the times we live in now. Many phones, and the Pixel in particular, can do a lot to improve, reboot and rework your images. This can be cool, until perhaps it is then used to create problematic images.
Naturally this is the user not the technology, but, for better or worse, the new Pixels can, and will do this better than many other options on the market.
The AI you will need to create these new twists on reality is of course the Gemini flavour, Google patented naturally. You will get this free for the first year, but, after that, per month you will be paying over 20 euros month to keep the lights on. This naturally raises some questions, will you still be able to look at the things you have created during the initial 12 months. How will the phone run, and the images, once you try to walk back to a Gemini lite version.
Will the Gemini powered options be so awesome that you never want to go back, or will you wish you hadn't pulled the trigger.
Our reviewers liked the performance of the phone, all the cool bells and whistles, but, for the overall user experience. It is also important for potential purchasers to consider these future financial outlays you may find yourself being committed to, especially if they had not been completely aware about this. It does seem like a potential fremium into locked in commitment, if you wish to maintain what you have created, and, or become accustomed to.
As always this is a case of caveat emptor but our team are still trying to get their head around the question of if the future use of Gemini is something that you can't live without. Interesting times!
