Tiny Forests: Australian Innovation for Biodiversity
Update: 2025-12-13
Description
Tiny forests, densely packed with native trees, are emerging as a solution to Australias environmental challenges. Led by The Groundswell Collective, these miniature ecosystems offer benefits like habitat creation, urban cooling, pollution reduction, and carbon capture. Inspired by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawakis method, these forests grow rapidly and transform underutilized spaces into thriving habitats. The collectives work has earned them the Biodiversity prize and has now expanded internationally, with the establishment of the Cook Islands first tiny forest.
