Description

On this episode of When Harry Met Daphne we interviewed Jennifer Peavey.  Her career started as an engineer, then industrial design, then an innovator. She created a process to use the moon cycle as a way to reflect and create.

When asked, "what does reflection mean to you?

" A broad definition is that idea of slowing down and listening.

And so for me my structure, I actually created a time, and the twist that I did was actually look at nature and say 'How does nature put reflection and action together?'

My specific metaphor was I looked at the moon phases and said as we have a the darkness of the moon with the new moon I would spend more time reflecting. Then as we get into the full moon as it would grow with light I would have more and more action, and then reverse back. So I allowed myself to have this cycle. I really was just using the moon as a timepiece on saying, this is when I'm going to do these things, because I can get distracted, I can end up in one place.

And that's particularly the engineer side of me, or sometimes the creative side of me. I'll get really excited about something. And I'll just keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going. And not really stop and think, 'Is this where I want to be? Is this what I want to do?'

And so for me, reflection was spending a moment and listening, I might ask myself questions. Originally, it was just trying to reconnect with my feelings. And part of that was the physical sensations of,
'Do I like the options before me?
Are these things that I want to engage with?'

And if there were some that were not okay, well, which ones do why? And then I would ask my staff the questions of why. And it would help me know what actions I should move forward with it would bring me joy."
