Veronica Velez and the Uprising of Colombia
Description
Since late April, the streets of Colombia have been the scene of massive protests against a tax reform proposed by the president Iván Duque. According to some reports, more than 50 protesters died as a result of police violence.
The demonstrations began when the president proposed a tax reform according to which, Colombians would have to pay more tax to cover the so-called insufficient resources to fight the COVID pandemic.
In this episode, I talked with Veronica Velez, an activist and a Trade Unionist lawyer from Colombia who is based in Berlin and takes active part in organization of the demonstrations and publication of the demands.
