We visit the studio of Oakland artist Alicia McCarthy. McCarthy is known for being a member of the ‘Mission School’ (a title she shies away from) and creates colorful, detailed abstracts in paint and colored pencils. She is a 2017 winner of SFMOMA’s SECA award, and is currently working on a large-scale glass installation for the San Francisco Airport. Her studio is full of her own work, and also the work of friends alive and dead. We adore her. We interview her in a storage shelf.
