We Have a Crush on Angela Hennessy
Update: 2018-02-26
Description
We visit the Oakland warehouse studio of California artist Angela Hennessy. Hennessy is a professor at the California College of the Arts and works with synthetic and human hair. Her work explores death and mourning in relationship to mythologies and experiences of Blackness. Her solo show, ‘When and Where I Enter’ at Southern Exposure included immense abstract sculptures, a person-sized crocheted rainbow of hair, an artist talk with three other queer Black female Oakland artists, and a mourning wreath made of hair and gold. We are in love. We interview her in her sunlit studio as trucks rumble by. See her work at angelahennessy.com
