Distractions - they seem so little at times. A Facebook post here, a lunch meeting there, maybe a glass of wine or a binge on Netflix. These little things can add up into big things though over time.
dis·trac·tion
/dəˈstrakSH(ə)n/Submit
noun
1.
a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else.
"the company found passenger travel a distraction from the main business of moving freight"
synonyms: diversion, interruption, disturbance, intrusion, interference, obstruction, hindrance
"he called these stories a distraction from the real issues"
2.
extreme agitation of the mind or emotions.
"he knew she was nervous by her uncharacteristic air of distraction"
synonyms: frenzy, hysteria, mental distress, madness, insanity, wildness, mania, derangement, delirium.
We uncover the cost of distractions and how they can keep us complacent, unfocused and in direct opposition to the things we want to accomplish. Some are less obvious than others, and it's the subconscious distractions we often pay the biggest price for.
The antidote distraction can be complex, but the first step is being aware of it. Once we identify what's taking away our attention, we can apply simple practices to take back our energy and subsequent focus.
It's not easy, but with a little direction and some added accountability - we can keep this beast off our backs and get to wok doing the things we know we need to do to become who we know we are supposed to.
