For many leaving the UK can be seen as a backwards step for your career in exchange for a more rewarding lifestyle, and there is some evidence of some truths to this. But, we should never pigeon hole everyone with this.
Although I would class myself as successful living here in Thailand both in terms of lifestyle and earnings, I would be lying if I didn’t admit there were times I have wondered what I would have gone on to achieve had I stayed in the UK. But I have never regretted leaving the humdrum of rat race living that would have come with that.
Gary Stevens was an ex-England and Spurs footballer and when offered the opportunity to manage football clubs in a different country – that also included Thailand – he jumped at the chance.
