What is truly required when it comes to relationship the physical or the mental?

Everybody always says that relationships are based on the physical such as money sex, what someone looks like, and possessions. And yet people based this on this don't stay together. Nor can I keep a male or female in a relationship. Indian people who base our relationship on who a person is how they treat that person, what they do for that person, and the way they show affection towards that person stay together a lot longer. They also except that person's flaws and imperfections, have a friendship with that person and a deeper connection and respect of that person. So that kind of contradicts what people say about basing relationship on looks. Because what a person looks like don't define them as a person as far as mentally, emotionally and spiritually
