Winning in the Wilderness - In Spite of Adversity
Jerry Seinfeld once told a supposedly true story about Bob from Buffalo and the day that he had. It started when his alarm clock didn’t go off due to an overnight power outage. Then in the shower he ran out of hot water about halfway through. As he went outside to get in the car he noticed that his left rear tire was flat.. After changing the tire and getting to work late, the foreman came by around mid-morning to tell him that the company was downsizing and that he was being let go. In fact, he was told to clock out at noon, that they would pay him for the half day and that would be it. After clocking out, he goes outside to discover that his car had been stolen from the parking lot. His brother-in-law drove for a cab company and he called him for a ride home. Upon arriving at home, he noticed a car in his driveway that he didn’t recognize and went inside to find his wife in bed with another man. He went for a walk and arriving back at home his wife told him that he would be on his own for dinner and that oh by the way she had filed for a divorce! How is that for a day? You talk about adversity... that kind of makes your worst day ever seem pretty good by comparison right? As we begin a new 4 week walk through Winning in the Wilderness, we’re going to see some things common to about every wilderness experience and some things that might be unique to our own stop over. One thing that’s common to every wilderness experience though is adversity. In fact it’s probably adversity of some kind that has us feeling like we’ve marched into the wilderness in the first place. We didn’t ask for it, wander into it, or set our sights on it, but there it is, right in our face, demanding to be dealt with. Here’s a thought... if there were a way to leverage the adversity so that we deal with it head on, learn the lesson and move on to the next thing, wouldn’t information like that be of extreme value? Join us on Sunday as we learn from the Master Teacher Himself about how to do just that. This is pivitol stuff because it’s not a matter of if, but when the next visit to the wilderness might be around the corner.
