Winning in the Wilderness - With the Word
In many military missions, especially those behind enemy lines, the soldiers in the unit have a “safe word,” a word that would signal the rest of the team that the mission has gone south and everyone needs to get to safety as soon as possible. In the restaurant business when the kitchen has run out of an item on the menu, servers are told to “86” that item. Meaning that, should the customer order that item, they’ll tell them they are sorry but they have sold out of that one. Most online accounts you have with either a vendor, internet service provider or even social media, require a user name and password to log in or check out when you’re ready to order and pay. If you’ve forgotten your password, many vendors will send you an email link to access it or create a new one. The point is that, in the world we live in, words matter. They do everything from giving us access to potentially saving lives. The thing is though you have to be an “insider” to know what the safe word or password is. You have to know what few others know to get to the result you are after.
When we’re in the wilderness, facing adversity, walking through the storms of life, facing trials, tests and temptation, wouldn’t it be great if we had a safe word a password or something that could “86” our enemy the devil? Something we could say or sing or pray that would get us through that particular battle and out of the tunnel to the other side? Good news. There is, and it’s closer than you think. The Word of God, the Scripture, the Bible has the exact words we need, and not so we can just crawl out or limp away, but walk out with some resolve in our countenance and confidence in our hearts. So how can we know when, where, and how to use it?
