Would it be wrong for refusing a cash deal after a rear-end and going straight to insurance?
Description
So, here’s the scenario: our producer Ryan’s wife was involved in a fender bender during the morning school drop-off. Another driver rear-ended her car. Right there at the scene, he begged her not to call the police and promised to settle it with cash.
Sounds simple enough – until Ryan called his panel beater friend who informed him that you only have 24 hours to report the accident to the police otherwise insurance won't pay out – and the other driver can basically refuse to pay.
Now here’s the debate: was she right to reject the “under-the-table” cash deal and go by the book, or is she the bad guy for not giving the driver a chance to honour his word?
