Description

Texas Men's Swimming and Diving is the most successful program in the history of college swimming. 14 NCAA Team Championships, 40 Big 12 Championships, countless individual NCAA Champions, and dozens of Olympic Gold Medalists. It's a dynasty that has spanned 4 decades, and from 1986 to 2016 was run by the same two legendary coaches: Head Coach Eddie Reese, and Associate Head Coach Kris Kubik.
.
Wyatt Collins has been with the program for 9 years, starting as a junior transfer from Boston University in 2011. After graduating in 2013, Wyatt became the volunteer assistant, learning from Kubik for 3 years before succeeding him upon his retirement in 2016, the same year the program claimed a second straight NCAA title and sent 3 athletes to the Olympics. Taking over for a legend at the age of 26 carries a ton of pressure, but the transition was seamless, to the tune of 2 more consecutive titles.
.
On the pod, Wyatt discusses:
- the enormity of succeeding a mentor
- the balance necessary to achieve greatness in a healthy way
- his role in running the nations best collegiate swim team
He also recommends a career path for Austin in writing greeting cards.
.
The conversation ebbs and flows naturally and the guys have fun chatting, like they always do.
