If you ask me why we chose to move to the small town in Florida that we moved to, I would tell you that Main Street had a lot to do with it. I grew up in a town whose downtown was once vibrant with people, business, and a lot of activity. That was, however, many years before I was born. I never saw that personally, but I often see photos shared that display the energy that once was.I know this is something that many people can say when it comes to their downtown. As suburbs became more popular, families moved outside of their once vibrant downtowns to raise their families in a quieter location, leaving downtowns across America ghost towns. Just memories on old photos or stories told is all that’s left to the abandoned buildings that line the street. Many areas across America are working to change that and bring back the energy their downtowns once held, also known as their Main Street. Today, Wayne Carter, who is the Executive Director of the Award Winning MainStreet DeLand Association sat with me to talk about it.Today, we are talking about:What exactly is MainStreetWhy is MainStreet so importantWhat does MainStreet bring to a communityWhat does it do for the economy and small businessesHow can an area start a MainStreet initiative in their area

If you're in a position where you're considering taking over the family business or possibly passing the legacy on, this episode will lay the groundwork on how to set both parties up for success.

Finding the courage to be you in business sounds like it would be a pretty easy task. The reality is that it’s not as easy as it sounds. We face several things during our business journey that may sway us away from being who we indeed are.Sometimes it happens during our growing phases. We are stretched outside of our comfort zone into the unknown, and what do we do? We look to those who are successful in our industry and decide to duplicate them.Another scenario is when friends or family place their expectations on us and who they believe we should be. Sure, we can easily say no, but often we think what we are told as young children of who we are and who we are not. Those words and the desire to be accepted persuade many of us to follow the path they designed for us.This last example is what my next guest has seen several times during his music career. It’s the pressure your industry puts on you to do, think and behave in a certain way.All of these scenarios can take us away from who we are. Knowing yourself and standing firm in who you are is vital in life and business. Jere B, also known as The Entremusician, shares his stories of standing firm despite the pressure to be what was expected of him.He talks to us about why it’s important and how to find out who you are.

We get super excited about it until….we see something else that seems to fit us better, and then we shift. In the end, we have a list of amazing ideas but our execution is off. Our marketing strategy has us on a hamster wheel and you desperately want to get off and start making money!Sound familiar? If so, then my guest today is going to help you stop running in circles and get started with the right marketing strategy, specific to you
Yesterday I made the say goodbye to Facebook. Yes, you read that correctly, I’m waving peace out and going on my way. As someone who lives and breathes social media, this probably sounds completely insane. But let me explain. What Social Media means to meSocial media is a great tool! It keeps us connected on a personal level and gets us in front of thousands of people that may have never heard of us. That’s pretty awesome. Personally, I place social into a few different categories:“Social” Media. These are platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn. Platforms where you are expected to interact and be social. Not So Social Media. These are platforms like Pinterest or YouTube, where we take in more than we interactSocial Audio. This is Clubhouse where we listen but can also engageI think these each have their strengths, but when it’s not used properly, it’s not so great. My DilemnaA few years ago, I started to get an unsettled feeling about Facebook. I was aware of how manipulating it could be and how our feeds were biased and thought about leaving. I had someone in my industry tell me that I shouldn’t say how I feel about it because I would be cutting my own throat.Ugh! They were right. I knew that. So I kept going along with it.Listen to why I decided to say Goodbye to Facebook and let me know where you stand with it? I would love to hear from you!

If you have scratched your head wondering how you could increase your revenue at any point in your business and just felt like you were working harder or smarter, but not getting anywhere. You’re not alone! Sometimes the tools that are shared with us don’t always work. That doesn’t mean they aren’t proven tips or strategies. What it means is that each of our brains is wired differently. So what works for me and is super easy may be super challenging for you, and vice versa. In today’s episode, my next guest is talking about how to double your revenue in 90 days! I know it sounds crazy, it did to me at first too, but the brain is a powerful tool! Having a degree in psychology, it’s no surprise that I totally geek on topics like this and I’m excited to share it with you.Jarron Haning, from Mindset Performace, has the perfect example when he shares this analogy, “You know how when you’re in the corn maze and you’re not sure if you should go left or right? But, when you step on a ladder suddenly the maze is no longer a mystery?”That’s what Jarrod Haning does for business owners. By teaching them how to think at a higher level, they are able to see the whole picture, and suddenly the obstacles that were blocking their growth no longer exist.Everything he teaches comes down to this one thing:“a breakthrough in your business will first happen as a breakthrough in your thinking”[3:41] How to start the process of understanding where you’re really stuck[5:47] How to know where our blocks are and what we need to change[7:14] Mindscans versus other personality tests[8:59] Why trying harder may not be the solution[9:28] What information does the mindscan share[12:08] How to know if using a to-do list is working for you[15:50] “No one will treat my business the way I do” may not be the truth[18:48] How to double your revenue in 90 days[26:27] the power of uncomfortable conversations[27:50] The key to having those uncomfortable conversations[35:16 How to pull yourself through being stuck
You created a course or are hosting an event and now you need a killer sales page! Before we dig deep into how to create sale pages that convert, I want to stop and take a moment to explain what a sales page is. Even though this term has gained in popularity, there’s still a lot of confusion around it. So let’s sum it up!A sales page is a stand-alone page with one goal in mind. Sales! You may have come across one of those channels where they are packed with infomercials. There’s someone on the TV selling you their product for a set amount of time, explaining how their product can solve your problems. That right there (in written form) is what a sales page is and does! But there’s much more than that!Selling online isn’t as easy as people make it seem or claim that it is. You really do need to connect with your audience. It’s not just about hacks and tricks. There’s an art to doing this where you speak directly to them and as they scroll your website, sales pages, emails, or blog, they begin to know, like, and trust you.In my opinion, great copy is your most powerful tool and a necessity for anyone who wants to convert viewers to customers. (I mean, that’s pretty much any business owner, entrepreneur, or speaker, right!?)If you have a course, event, or business, you know having great copy makes a difference. So, put on your headphones and get ready for my next episode that is packed full with great tips on how to create sales pages that convert![8:16] The two biggest copy mistakes[10:51] Indoctrination. The first part of creating copy that converts.[13:37] How to talk to your audience[15:14] Where Colleen goes to learn how to talk to a clients audience[17:31] A super important part of your copy that you want to include in your course and why.[18:56] What is the best type of bonuses to add to your course[21:30] Is long-form or short-form copy better for a sales page?[24:30] How often should you have a Call to Action (CTA) on your sales page?[26:32] Who should hire a copywriter?[28:17] What is a typical day for Colleen?
