Do you consider yourself GenX?
Do you know someone who was born between 1965-1980?
Don’t miss this episode inspired by a TikTok on “The Top GenX Blindspots”. Whoa!
For me, and many midlife women, these are things we learned to do to survive in a system where our emotional and mental needs weren’t met. We were pretty ingenious actually, one might even say, warrior like! Yet, as adults, these adaptive, protective strategies become maladaptive and hurt us and our relationships.
Join me as I explain how the way we were raised might be quietly sabotaging our emotional wellbeing and the health of our relationships.
If you have ever wondered why you say you are fine when you are not, why you push your own needs aside, or why you feel responsible for everyone around you, this episode will help so much.
And I don’t leave you hanging - after listening, you’ll have some simple strategies to help you care for yourself, connect more deeply, and begin shifting patterns that have been in place for decades.
This episode is the perfect starting point as we begin a new year and move toward February’s relationship healing work in the Love Your Life School.
Join me, fellow GenX woman, as I look at three hidden patterns that are probably playing out in your relationships and affecting your mental health.

Anyone else out there tired?
Emotionally exhausted?
Ready to try something new for 2026?
This is the episode for you. 💗
I sat down with Dr. Shonda Allen Hill to talk about the subtle “conversation traps” so many midlife women fall into without realizing it. If you’ve ever walked away from a conversation feeling drained, irritated, or like you just lost thirty minutes of your life you’ll never get back, click play. 🤓
These traps steal our time, amp up our stress, and keep us stuck in cycles of over-explaining, defending, and managing everyone else’s emotions. Dr. Hill breaks down why these patterns feel so exhausting and why they’re especially common for moms who are already carrying the emotional load of the whole household.
But here’s the good news: communication doesn’t have to feel heavy. In this episode, Dr. Hill shares simple, doable shifts that help you reclaim your time, your energy, and your peace—even if the people around you don’t change. Her insights will show you how to say less, stress less, and sidestep the conversations that lead straight into conflict or resentment. If you’re ready to feel lighter in your relationships and more in control of your day, you’re going to love this conversation.

When you next feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or over. it. all….Before booking a one-way ticket to anywhere but here, press play and tap along with me.
In this episode of the Love Your Life Show, I walk you through a full guided EFT tapping session. This is the exact practice I use when my emotions feel too big, when my anxiety hits a ten out of ten, or when life feels heavier than I want it to.
EFT tapping blends Chinese acupressure with modern psychology and is known for helping with anxiety, stress, fear, sleep struggles, and emotional overload. You simply tap on 9 points of the body while repeating a setup statement.
This is a quick episode where I guide you through the exact practice. Not one more thing to do or research. I’ve done that for you. Literally, sit back, push play, and feel relief.
I’m serious when I say, this works.
Inside this episode you will learn:
- How EFT tapping works and why it helps so quickly
- The 9 tapping points and how to use them
- A simple phrase to repeat for emotional relief
- When to use tapping for stress, overwhelm, anxiety, and spiraling thoughts
- Why this tool is in my personal emotional wellness toolbox
This is a short, calming, supportive session designed for real life moments. You can tap along anywhere and any time you need grounding.
If you have been feeling stretched thin or stuck in your head, this episode will help you reconnect with your body and breathe again. Give yourself the next few minutes. You deserve it. Press play and let’s tap together.

If you’ve ever found yourself feeling resentful, irritated, or annoyed as a mom, wife, or friend, you don’t want to miss this episode.
Learning from Dr. Jennifer Finlayson-Fife has helped me so much as a mom, through my divorce and into my now healthy, more mature marriage, my friendships, and my relationship with myself. I can not recommend her work highly enough.
Please gift yourself a listen to today’s episode. Dr. Jennifer Finlayson-Fife and I talk about why resentment shows up in marriage and motherhood and how to use it as a path toward self-understanding and deeper connection.
We explore how relationships are powerful containers for personal growth, what it really means to self-confront and take responsibility for your part, and how to move away from compliance and people-pleasing into honesty and emotional maturity.
Dr. Finlayson-Fife shares her perspective on self-authoring, costly accommodation, and the difference between love and victim entitlement. Together we talk about how to feel more connected in your marriage, less resentful in your motherhood, and more grounded in who you truly are.
If you’ve been longing for more peace and authenticity in your relationships, this conversation will help you take the first step.

Whoa warriors, this episode wasn’t planned.
It started on a walk. One small moment after another, until something landed so clearly that I stopped short, pulled out my phone, and hit record.
In this short bonus episode, I share a more personal side of my own life and what that walk stirred up for me in real time. It’s reflective, honest, and a little different than my usual episodes.
Then, I bring you the heart of a listener-favorite teaching and walk you through how to choose your word of the year in a way that actually feels supportive instead of stressful. Not a word you should pick. A word that meets you where you are and gently guides you toward how you want to feel and live.
If you’ve been craving clarity, a reset, or a softer way to step into the year ahead, this episode is for you. Let it be a pause, a breath, and an invitation to choose on purpose.

The difference between helping and fixing (and why it matters)
What’s really behind our need to keep everyone happy
The hidden rewards of over-functioning that keep us stuck
Actual things you can say to validate others.
What happens when you stop managing everyone else’s emotions
Simple, daily steps to release control and reconnect with yourself
How to Support not Solve (with your teenager, young adult, or spouse!)
Whether you call it people-pleasing, emotional outsourcing, codependency, or just “being the responsible one,” this conversation will help you see that you’re not broken and you’re not alone.
If you’ve been craving lighter, freer, more balanced relationships, you’ll want to listen in. Talking with Leah helped me so much. 🌿

This holiday season, skip the stress of finding the “perfect” gift. Time and time again, I’ve found that these three gifts last far longer than any new xbox game, fancy watch, or clothing item my teen or spouse wants.
I made this week’s Love Your Life Show episode to quickly share three things you can give your loved ones that will mean far more than anything you can buy.
I think you’ll like my ideas, especially when you listen in to hear how they work in real life!
Click play to learn simple ways to:
✨ Shift your focus to what’s good in your spouse and kids
💬 Use words that build confidence and connection
🤝 Create loving memories through presence and touch
I credit these gifts as foundations to the close relationships I have with my kids now. They’ve also helped me in the empty nest! There’s no time that’s too late to start - End your year with less pressure and more peace, and give your loved ones what they truly want: you.

The post 3 Gifts for Your Loved Ones They’ll Remember Far Beyond the New Year appeared first on Susie Pettit.
The holidays can bring joy AND… stress. Between the parties, the pressure, and the people-pleasing, it’s easy to slip into that “F it” mindset with our wellness and mental health habits.
Which is why many of us, myself included, get to January feeling down on ourselves and/or like our wellness is broken and we need massive change. Now. Dammit.
And yet, we know that mindset doesn’t work. Did you know that more than 90% of people quit their new years resolutions before 20 days have passed?! By January 17th!
This year and in this episode of the Love Your Life Show, I’m inviting you to try something gentler: a good enough mindset. Instead of throwing your wellness out the window until January, what if you took just one minute to reset?
I’ll walk you through simple, realistic stress reduction, wellness, and mental health tips that actually work. From movement to quick ways to calm your brain, nourish your body, and restore your energy. These are the small, mindful holiday habits that help you feel better (not behind) this season.
No perfection required 💗 just a willingness to start small.
Join me for your One-Minute Holiday Reset and learn how to bring more holiday wellness, peace, and self-compassion into your days. How would it feel to head into the new year feeling proud, grounded, and recharged?

Do you ever feel drained or tired after your interactions with others in your life? Like maybe your spouse or teen but also with a parent, sibling, coworker or friend?
Please know, this is totally normal. We weren’t taught skillful relationship tools and so it makes sense that we’ll feel more reactive, resentful, or heavy after certain interactions.
The great news is that we can learn these skills! In fact, I’ve found that there are some very simple things I’ve learned that make all the difference for me in how I feel in my relationships. Even better news? I share three simple ones today. Just in time for you to use them over the holidays! 🌲
These skills aren’t about changing others; they’re about helping you feel calmer, more confident, and back in control of your emotional energy. If you use them, you’ll be practicing mindful communication, active listening, and even non-violent communication (perfect for what’s happening in the world right now!).

What if this holiday season you could walk into family gatherings feeling calm, grounded, and at peace—no matter what your relatives do? 🎄🕎
In this episode of The Love Your Life Show, Susie Pettit reveals a surprising secret that can help you handle the aunt who always criticizes your clothes, the dad who brings up politics, the uncle who drinks too much, or the sibling glued to their phone.
Instead of dreading the drama or wishing people would change, Susie will show you how this one mindset shift can free you from frustration, help you set boundaries that actually work, and let you enjoy your holidays in a whole new way.

What can the Australian outback and a Dr. Seuss story teach us about perfectionism and anxiety?
Ever hear yourself saying “I’ll feel better once ‘this’ is over” or ‘this’ is done? Like, once your kid gets through this thing or your partner learns how to manage his anger or you lose that weight or you check off that last goal? That’s the trap of the arrival fallacy, and it keeps so many of us stuck in worry and self-criticism. For me, I find that it steals my present day happiness and calm. I’m always feeling like there’s something more to do or fix or change.
Well, listen to this episode as I share two powerful life lessons that were reinforced for me when I was on my Australian camper van adventure through the outback and Great Barrier Reef. With wisdom from Dr. Seuss’s Solla Sollew, I’ll share how perfectionism and anxiety sneak into our daily lives (and how to kick those joy stealers out!)
If you’ve ever felt weighed down by worry, waiting for “someday” to feel better, this conversation will help you see why life doesn’t need to be perfect to be meaningful—and how to experience more peace and joy today.

Do you ever feel guilty taking time to do something you enjoy?
Or have you ever said things like “I don’t have time for that” (and by that, you mean basic human needs, like you don’t have time to eat, to sleep, to pee?!?)
Maybe you are running around so much taking care of everyone and everything that you find yourself fantasizing about hiding in a closet somewhere for a couple of days?
I’ve been there/thought that and am so excited for you to listen to this interview. This week I’m joined by Jenny Lytle, a nurse with over 30 years of experience in end-of-life and hospice care. She now helps caregivers stop running on empty so they can keep showing up without losing themselves in the process.
Together, we talk about:
How to keep caring without collapsing
What we get wrong about being a “good caregiver”
How to survive caregiving and being in the sandwich generation
Tiny, doable ways to refill your energy tank (even if you only have 10 minutes)
If you’re the one holding everything (and everyone) together, caring for aging parents, supporting kids, managing the household, this episode is for you.

Last week, in part one, we talked about three common behaviors many of us carry after leaving a narcissistic relationship: hypervigilance and people-pleasing, difficulty trusting our perceptions, and emotional dysregulation or numbness.
In this week’s episode of The Love Your Life Show, we’re talking about how to break free from those patterns so you can move forward with more peace, confidence, and joy. You’ll learn practical, compassionate steps for:
Calming hypervigilance and reclaiming your energy
Rebuilding trust in your own thoughts and feelings
Regulating emotions and reconnecting to yourself
If you’ve ever wondered “I’m out… but why do I still feel stuck?” this episode will give you the tools to start shifting your life in small, powerful ways. This is your next step in healing — and you don’t have to do it alone.

The post Healing Tools to Break Free from Narcissistic Abuse appeared first on Susie Pettit.
If you’ve ever been in a narcissistic relationship (with a partner, parent, boss, or friend), you know the effects don’t magically disappear when you leave. In fact, sometimes that’s when the real work begins.
In this episode of The Love Your Life Show, I share three common behaviors many of us carry after narcissistic abuse:
Hypervigilance and people-pleasing
Difficulty trusting your own perceptions
Emotional dysregulation or numbness
These aren’t signs you’re broken. Rather, they’re survival patterns your brain and body learned in unsafe environments. Coping techniques you learned to protect yourself in complex PTSD.
Today is part one of a two-part series, and we’re starting with awareness: how these behaviors show up, what they look like in everyday life, and why you might still be doing them even years later.
Whether you’re early in recovery or decades out, this episode will help you see your patterns with compassion — and prepare you for next week’s conversation about how to heal and move forward.

thanks to Susie I have not slogged through sending out holiday cards in 3 years. what freedom. no regrets.
Susie has read all the books so I don't have to. She turns what she's learned into portable, digestible nuggets of truth that have helped me find peace, comfort, and even joy amid my effort to deal with old wounds, and be a decent parent.
