A Journey Into SleepIt’s true that we all live fast paced lives - emails, texts and social media have taken communicating to a rapid new level and our bodies are simply not evolved to keep up! Our breath patterns change daily and are often sending the wrong messages to the brain via the nervous system and keeping us in flight or fight making it hard to switch off at night time. Sleep is seen as a luxury! In fact, insomnia is on the rise at an alarming rate – Two thirds of UK adults suffer from disrupted sleep and nearly a quarter manage no more than five hours a night! We spend so much time up our heads and without feeling the presence and connection in our lower bodies so let’s bridge the two together with a simple breath exercise designed the relax the body and mind. This will help connect to your felt senses, stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and become aware of where you may be holding any tension and where the breath feels like it is more flowing and where it may be restricted. Think of this as a lovely internal massage for the mind and the body to help get you to sleep. These shorts are exclusively created by Rebecca Dennis to help you find the space to breathe and experience moments of self-care through reflective, empowering and relaxing exercises. You can come back and listen to these at any time you feel the need. A simple grounding breath exercise helps to relax the muscles, establishes rhythm, calm the mind, promote circulation and creates a sense of peace. This is an effective way to ground and check how we are feeling at the start of the day.Like any practice, the most challenging part of this exercise is just sitting down to do it. Start small and simple with five rounds. As it gets easier to sit for longer, add a few rounds on and begin to get the breath broader and more expansive. Notice where you feel more space, more length and more strength and acknowledge where you feel more energy and aliveness.****These shorts are exclusively created by Rebecca Dennis to help you find the space to breathe and experience moments of self-care through reflective, empowering and relaxing exercises. A simple breathing exercise based on Yoga Nidra basically means Sleep with Awareness. This helps to calm down the nervous system especially if you’ve had a busy day or have a busy mind. They say a few minutes of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to a few hours of quality sleep, it’s restorative as well as rejuvenating. You can practice this in the day if you need to just switch off and power up or at night time. You can also listen to this with children to help them relax, let go of any worries and go to sleep. ****These shorts are exclusively created by Rebecca Dennis to help you find the space to breathe and experience moments of self-care through reflective, empowering and relaxing exercises. This calming breathing technique for anxiety and overwhelm takes just a few minutes and can be practiced anywhere. You will get the most benefit if you do it regularly, as part of your daily routine. You can practice this sitting in a chair, or lying on a bed or yoga mat on the floor. Make yourself as comfortable as you can. If you're lying down, place your arms a little bit away from your sides. Let your legs be straight, or bend your knees so your feet are flat on the floor. If you're sitting or standing, place both feet flat on the ground. Whatever position you're in, place your feet roughly hip-width apart.****These shorts are exclusively created by Rebecca Dennis to help you find the space to breathe and experience moments of self-care through reflective, empowering and relaxing exercises. Rebecca has exclusively created a breathing exercise for you to take some time out and connect to that wonderful yet often under-rated feeling of gratitude. Neuroscientist have now proven that by practicing gratitude and mindful breathing together on a regular basis it can actually lengthen our telomeres (the caps on the chromosomes) and aid the aging process. We can retrain our thought patterns by listening to our body and supporting our innately designed systems through our breath. The more times these neural pathways are activated, the less time it takes to stimulate the pathway for the neurons to wire together. These shorts are exclusively created by Rebecca Dennis to help you find the space to breathe and experience moments of self-care through reflective, empowering and relaxing exercises.
