Marc and I met at the iconic Cincinnati running specialty store Bob Roncker's Running Spot, over a decade ago. Fast forward and Marc has completed numerous ultramarathons since then. Currently, he is training for his first ever 100k (spoiler alert: he's completed a 100 miler, three to be exact, but in typical ultra runner fashion, he neglected the logical progression of distances). Lily shares finding balance among all of life's demands has been instrumental in helping her achieve her goals; most notably she cites the importance of a solid social support system, and some good pump up jams don't hurt either! Full of evidence-based practical applications, resources and depth...this is an episode you NEED to hear! Mary Shay joins me to share her knowledge and expertise regarding trauma-informed care. As a Trauma Therapist specializing in treating CPTSD/PTSD, Mary has worked in the trauma field for roughly 15 years. She uses a combination of Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction as well as incorporate her background as a former personal trainer to empower clients in their healing journey. She began her career working in the Philadelphia communities and schools with children with behavioral disorders, before finding her passion in working with survivors of domestic violence, and then becoming the program director at a safe haven for survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. Her clinical interests include co-occurring disorders, human/sex trafficking, and working with men and women who have experienced significant trauma. She highly recommends The Body Keeps The Score by Besser Van Der Kolk, MD and creating a support network when beginning your healing journey!
