PART 2 of 2: CYCLING SHOES & INSOLES  Wei sits down with master bike fitter, Tony Corke, for the second part of their conversation about the role of cycling specific shoes and why insoles are far more important in cycling compared with running and walking.  If you’ve been struggling to get your feet comfortable when cycling or you’re curious to learn how to unlock the cycling potential you didn’t know you even had, then this episode is going to be a cracker for you!  Learn how your central nervous system governs your movement asymmetries on the bike and what the fundamental challenge cycling brings to every human being. Let’s talk shoes, feet, brains and ‘arch ticklers’...  Lake Cycling Shoes: https://www.lakecycling.com/ Lore Cycling Shoes: https://lore.cc/ Online bike fit assessment: https://form.jotform.com/Foundationbikefit/online If you have any questions for us, join the conversation at: https://www.instagram.com/cyclingdemystified/ Are you 'bike-fit curious'? PART 1 of 2: CYCLING SHOES & INSOLES What should you really be looking for from an ideal fitting cycling shoe? Wei goes deep with master bike fitter, Tony Corke about cycling shoes (racing slippers!) They delve into how to find the best fit, force transfer, cleat position, toe spring, heels retention, common mistakes, Lore 3D printed shoes, why Bont spent £40,000 on a redundant foot scanner and why stock shoes are actually made for no one... Find out why shoe fit goes way beyond measuring length, width and depth if you want to establish the key foundations for your cycling comfort and performance. Although we recorded this episode second (and before we changed the show name!) It made sense to release this episode about shoes first, to set the scene. As endurance athletes we can quite easily get tunnel vision in our quest to improve performance. Getting fitter, stronger and more resilient are all obvious qualities to which we dedicate much of our training time but how much time do you dedicate to honing your cycling skills? Your ability to effectively steer and control your bike is equally as important as your ability to power the bike. Should we be improving our riding craft as much as our power numbers? Come with us on a discussion around whether or not you need Tom Pidcock levels of bike handling, how adopting a process based mindset is a skill in itself and how the high cost of bikes could be holding you back from developing the critical skills you need to be an effective cyclist. Sometimes to be a good coach / teacher we have to be prepared to tell our clients/ students information which is correct but unpopular or uncomfortable. Sometimes the truth hurts but this information is coming from a place of wanting to help athletes find the best path for them... To make an omelette you have to crack a few eggs... with this in mind, the team discuss the real reason why so many athletes are not realising the potential they are capable of... How to identify this mistake and what to do about it. If you're struggling to get the results you want in your events and practice, despite working as hard as you can or consistently following a training plan, then this could be the missing link you've you've been looking for. After Matt has a sub-optimal incident on his regular cycle commute, the team decide to sit down and explore the art of commuting by bike. Although London centric, there's something here for every rider. Welcome to a special series on the ten essential pillars of bike fitting. We had such a good response from a recent webinar we did on this subject, and received so many questions, that we thought we would dive deeper into the 10 pillars and bring you a podcast episode for each of the ten pillars... We have dedicated an entire episode to each of the essential pillars, so that you can take the exact same proven methods we use in our bike fit sessions and apply them to your own bike fit. Hopefully this will be particularly useful for those riders who can't make it over to our studio in London. We will be releasing 2 episodes each week, one on Monday and one on Thursday. Follow along in sequence and you will be able to build your bike fit up in the same order as we do in studio sessions. As always, if you have any questions off the back of this series, get in touch. We want to hear from you, and help you find that amazing bike fit you've been looking for! So grab a seat, a cup of tea and tune in, so that we can share the knowledge we have accrued over 1000s and 1000s of bike fits Part 10: Testing Your Bike Fit If you've been following along with the series and enjoying the practical tips... this episode is probably not what you were expecting... But we reckon this is THE most valuable episode of all, as we delve into how, ultimately, it's your mindset and philosophy that will determine how good your bike fit potential can really be. Of course we'll give you the practical processes you need to implement but listen in for something a bit different, and how to take your bike fit to the next level. Neglected by the industry and therefore not considered by the majority or riders and fitters as a critical part of their bike fit and long term health. This is a big topic so we've broken 'crank length' up into two seperate episodes. Part (a) covers what is crank length, what does it affect, why you should care and why its been overlooked. So grab a seat, a cup of tea and tune in, so that we can share the knowledge we have accrued over 1000s and 1000s of bike fits Part 2: Saddle Height: This is clearly one of the most important aspects of your bike fit, but also the one variable that almost 70% of riders have got wrong... but through no fault of their own... Listen in to find out why and see how you can discover your optimal saddle height.
