In this episode of "Inspiring Careers in Nursing," Julia Lanouette interviews Cameron Cook, a 2018 graduate of Villanova's Fitzpatrick College of Nursing and a 2022 MBA graduate from Villanova School of Business. Cameron currently works as a clinical educator with Novartis's Breast Cancer Team. He discusses his unique role in providing drug and medication education to clinicians, emphasizing how his job ensures a seamless patient journey and enhances the confidence of healthcare providers. Cameron reflects on his transition from bedside nursing to a more structured, nine-to-five schedule, sharing insights on the balance between administrative tasks and in-person or virtual interactions with clinicians. Cameron delves into how his educational background and networking experiences at Villanova helped pave the way for his current position. He highlights the strong alumni presence and support within the Villanova nursing community, which played a significant role in his career progression. Additionally, Cameron notes that while an MBA wasn't a requirement for his role, the skills and knowledge gained from his business degree have been invaluable. He advises aspiring nurses to gain as much disease state education as possible and to network actively to increase their opportunities in the field. In addressing broader healthcare challenges, Cameron identifies nursing burnout as a critical issue. He stresses the importance of self-care and advises nurses to leave work at work to maintain their well-being. Reflecting on his journey, he encourages listeners to be open to different career paths within nursing and to give themselves grace when navigating their careers. This is the fifth episode of Inspiring Careers in Nursing, the podcast where we hear from Villanova Nursing Alumni about the different career paths they have taken to inform and inspire listeners.  In this episode, Nicole Blanche Guerin interviewed Jamie O'Day. Refusing to take the traditional nursing path by starting in General Medicine, Jamie fought hard to find a job that fulfilled her passion of working with expecting mothers in Labor & Delivery, where she met NAPS co-founder Emily Silver.  Being a mom, maternal child health nurse, and board certified lactation consultant, Jamie knows first hand and through experience that there is no one right way to parent. Which is why she and Emily built NAPS as an honest, real-life, judgment-free space with personalized support from trained medical professionals. The classes, bootcamps, podcast, as well as their signature membership service, Nurture by NAPS, are designed to help parents thrive in every stage from conception through preschool. Jamie is most passionate about helping parents cut through all the superstitious nonsense and judgment and find the way that works best for them. In particular working parents, and supporting families through their employers to address the complexities that come with being a working parent, and not being able to show up at 100% for everyone, 100% of the time! You can always count on Jamie to give you the right medical answer and to help you feel empowered and confident with honest, real-life advice based on her own experiences as a working parent, nurse and as a mother to three young girls. Jamie graduated from Villanova University and is a Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Jamie lives in Boston with her husband and 3 daughters.
