In this episode, Maryalice Morro interviewed Nicole Blanche Guerin. Nicole has over twenty-five years’ experience in insurance and reinsurance (Insurance for insurance companies) and over ten years of Critical Care nursing experience. She has served as an officer in multiple organizations including multiline carriers, an international reinsurance broker, a startup Referenced Based Pricing (RBP) medical cost containment company and a multi-line reinsurer. Nicole has successfully executed various roles with progressive responsibilities across multiple product lines, including roles as in- house counsel, from Associate General Counsel to GC, Operations/COO, claims management, managed care contracting, reinsurance treaty negotiation and drafting, commutation negotiations and alternative dispute resolution management. Products lines experienced include workers compensation, general liability, property, disability, life, accident, and health, and excess of loss and stop loss reinsurance. She has managed teams across the United States and Canada and in various locations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Europe.
After graduating from Villanova University’s College of Nursing, Nicole started her nursing career at Hahnemann University Hospital in the CCU/CTICU, Cardiac Care Unit / Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit obtaining a Critical-Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) designation shortly thereafter, which she maintained for ten years. After earning a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) with a concentration in Health Law from Widener University, School of Law and passing the licensing exam for Pennsylvania, she began her legal career in professional liability defense. She has substantial experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) , including several reinsurance arbitrations and mediations. Nicole brings her clinical experience in critical care nursing to complex claim management at AXIS as well as a working knowledge of various laws and regulations within the United States. She is an engaging speaker and has created or co-presented seminars and workshops for the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA), the Self Insurance Institute of America (SIIA), Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) and Defense Research Institutes (DRI), among others. She currently serves on the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing, Board of Consultors at Villanova University and is an active supporter of the Women’s Employee Resource Group (ERG) at AXIS and women’s health services in the greater Philadelphia Area. She is currently licensed to practice Nursing and Law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
