Podcast Episode 195_ When Hormones & Neurodivergence Collide Why Your Coping Mechanisms Are Failing. You're a GenX woman who has spent decades building a toolbox of strategies to manage your neurodivergence. But lately, things feel… different. The brain fog is thicker, the sensory overwhelm is more intense, and your usual coping mechanisms just aren't working. It’s not just you.For neurodivergent women in perimenopause, hormonal fluctuations can feel like a perfect storm. Estrogen and progesterone shifts can directly impact dopamine and serotonin, often exacerbating symptoms like executive dysfunction, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation. The tools that once served you so well may suddenly feel useless.Today, let's talk about why it's not a personal failure, but a biological reality—and why a holistic, compassionate approach is more important than ever.Does this sound familiar? What’s one symptom that has felt different lately?Share with me at sonyajanisse@gmail.comIf you want to dive deeper into these topics, I have a free resource on my website about managing your energy in a chaotic world. I know how exhausting it can feel-carrying the weight of needing to have it all figured out.The late nights of overthinking. The silent prayers. The moments where nothing makes sense. But what if... just for today... you gave yourself permission to breathe? To not force the answers. To sit gently with the unknown.Sometimes, the most beautiful clarity doesn't come when we chase it—it arrives when we soften. When we stop demanding and start trusting. You're not falling behind. You're simply unfolding.Be kind to your heart today. You are exactly where you are supposed to be.Think of the song "December, 1963, oh what a night" ...oh what a week, oh what amonth, oh what a year!!!!Embrace your slownessPause and reflectEverything is working out ever better than you can possibly imagine.Smiles, Coach SonyaDig a little deeperTake an assessment ot twoWatch This recording #asksonya #afreshapproach #sonyajanisse #rightontime #evenbetter #lifechanginglifecoach #slowness #holistichealthcoach #linkinbio #podcastepisode #softness

It's preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have -- you. It's renewing the four dimensions of your nature -- physical, spiritual, mental, and social/emotional.Philosopher Herb Shepherd describes the healthy balanced life around four values: perspective (spiritual), autonomy (mental), connectedness (social), and tone (physical). George Sheehan, the running guru, describes four roles: being a good animal (physical), a good craftsman (mental), a good friend (social), and a saint (spiritual). Sound motivation and organization theory embrace these four dimensions or motivations -- the economic (physical); how people are treated (social); how people are developed and used (mental); and the service, the job, the contribution the organization gives (spiritual)."Sharpen the Saw" basically means expressing all four motivations. It means exercising all four dimensions of our nature, regularly and consistently, in wise and balanced ways.Sheila & I tapped into being Intuitive, Analytical, and EmpathicThere is so much power in the small, everyday habits that curate your future. We constantly get stuck, and when we do, what happens? Welcome back, you beautiful, beautifully cluttered souls, to 'I AM' – the podcast that tackles the messy bits of life with a side of mindful mischief. Today, Find the Freedom to Be You (Authentically You) ...watch this episode on YouTube “One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.”―Shannon L. AlderI discovered that some people may not necessarily be “people pleasers”, but they still don’t live with self-integrity…you know not living in accordance with one's priorities, desires and values. That could be because they don’t truly know themselves or maybe don’t want to ruffle any feathers. Therefore, they feel it’s safer to live by societal expectations and beliefs rather than their true beliefs. There’s also the trap of having an overly busy lifestyle that many people embark on with - little time to ask themselves “what do I really want?” or “what makes me happy?” I get it. I've spent my lifetime being a people pleaser, so when I broke the cycle I decided to dedicate the last 12 years to building a business that guides and supports individuals in living an authentic and fulfilling life. But first, why does authenticity even matter? Well, it’s way easier being yourself than putting so much effort and energy into people pleasing for others. The energy it requires to continuously analyze situations and people so you can respond “appropriately” is insane!!! When someone is authentic, we look at them and feel their honesty, confidence and most likely wish we could do the same. Actually, don’t you feel great being around someone who is authentic? It gives you the permission to be authentic too - feeling the freedom to be you. There are so many benefits to being authentic – respect from others, greater trust, solid and meaningful relationships, you can self-actualize, and simply be at your best!If you’re on the “becoming my authentic self” journey, read on to understand the four pillars to being your authentic self. Essentially a roadmap on how to achieve (and maintain) being authentic – i.e. NO MORE PEOPLE PLEASING, oh, and some questions to support you on this journey. In the midst of our busy lives, it's essential to carve out time for self-care and reconnect with our authentic selves. One powerful way to achieve this is through engaging in hobbies. Hobbies not only provide a welcome escape from the demands of daily life but also serve as a means to nurture and express our individuality“As my awareness increases, my control over my own being increases.” – William SchutzFour PillarsNo.1 Self-AwarenessWho are you having a difficult time being yourself with? Why do you think that is?When do you catch yourself shrinking and almost disappearing? What is the reason for that? When are you stressed out? Who are you with? Why is that?Who do you have a hard time saying no to, but would like to? What are you afraid of? So what?In what area of your life do you feel lacks authenticity? I.e. Where do you feel you might be living out of integrity?"Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom."–Aristotle.No.2 Self-DiscoveryWhen thinking about your personality traits, do you think you are funny, shy, intelligent, introverted, secretly flamboyant, predictable, giving, athletic, direct, methodical? How would you describe yourself?Did you discover negative traits you might have? Like selfishness, blunt, lazy, compulsive, false, selfish, gullible, vindictive, naive, or moody? Do you always express those traits? What do you love to do? What do you despise? What are your dreams and aspirations? What are your biggest challenges lately and what are you doing about it?What are 25 things that make you smile? “What self-acceptance does is open up more possibilities of succeeding because you aren’t fighting yourself along the way.” – Shannon AblesNo.3 Self-AcceptancePart of self-acceptance is also realizing that whatever you did in that moment (good or bad), is simply what you did in that moment, and what you were capable of doing in that moment. When you are able to see that truth, self-judgment disappears and self-love comes in! In the moment, you did the best you could. Instead of self-judgment, learn and move on.Self-acceptance is also the gateway to accepting others and their life path. Honestly, this is where we can begin practicing “Christ Consciousness” on earth. Becoming a vessel of love, truth, and goodness on the planet and actively striving to attain it."No other love, no matter how genuine it is, can fulfill one’s heart better than unconditional self-love." —Edmond MbiakaNo. 4 Self-LoveAll of the above pillars are milestones to self-love, and self-love is the journey we are here to experience. When we have self-love, we can then love and accept others' differences, their path, their flaws (because we have them too) and all of this can lead to peace on earth. Sound dreamy? Yes, I know it does. However, I will encourage you to focus on just that and observe how your life changes. See who shows up in your life, see the opportunities that emerge naturally for you to live a happier and fulfilling life. Witness your relationships flourish, feel a decrease of stress and judgment, and feel free and light in your heart. ..Let's dive a little deeper as we explore the significance of hobbies for self-care and how they can aid in reclaiming your authentic self.Understanding the Role of Hobbies:Hobbies play a vital role in self-care by providing an avenue for self-expression, relaxation, and personal fulfillment. Engaging in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment allows you to step away from the pressure of constantly pleasing others and reconnect with your own needs and desires.Identifying Your Passions:Take time to reflect on activities that ignite your passion and curiosity. What hobbies have you always wanted to explore? Whether it's painting, gardening, playing a musical instrument, or photography, finding hobbies that resonate with you will help you tap into your authentic self.Cultivating Mindfulness and Flow:When engrossed in a hobby, you enter a state of flow, where time seems to stand still, and you are fully present in the moment. This mindful immersion in an activity helps alleviate stress, anxiety, and the need to please others. Embrace this state of flow as a way to reconnect with your inner self and experience a sense of fulfillment.Prioritizing Personal Time:Make a conscious effort to prioritize personal time for engaging in hobbies. Welcome back, you beautiful, beautifully cluttered souls, to 'I AM' – the podcast that tackles the messy bits of life with a side of mindful mischief. Today, we're diving deep, not into a yoga pose (though that's coming later), but into the murky depths of what we hide. Yes, those little secrets, those tucked-away traumas, those… well, those questionable snack choices you made last Tuesday. Because let's face it, what's hiding is costing you, and it's not just your dignity.Watch on YouTubeWe're going to explore how hiding affects your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Think of it as a spring cleaning for your soul, but with more jokes and less actual scrubbing.Segment 1: The Physical TollLet's start with the body, because it's always the snitch. You think you're hiding stress? Your shoulders are wearing it like a chronic hunch. You're burying emotions? Your gut's staging a rebellion, and it's armed with gas. That's right, gas. The ultimate emotional barometerSegment 2: The Mental Maze Now, let's venture into the mental maze. Hiding isn't just about secrets, it's about the stories we tell ourselves. 'I'm fine,' 'Everything's perfect,' 'I totally didn't spend my rent money on artisanal cheese.' Sound familiarSegment 3: The Spiritual ShiftAnd finally, the spiritual side. Hiding creates a disconnect from your true self, from your intuition, from that inner spark that makes you, well, you. It's like trying to navigate with a foggy GPS – you're going to end up in some questionable places. So, dear listeners, what's hiding costing you? It's time to shine a light on those shadows, to embrace your whole, beautifully imperfect self. Remember, vulnerability is not weakness; it's a superpower. And also, maybe lay off the artisanal cheese for a bit. Just a suggestion.I've got some cool ideas that might help you crush your health and wellness goals! Podcast Episode #181Keep expectations low, then shine.Join us on YouTube here - Our expectations play a profound role in our daily contentment. In the book Engineering Happiness, it is discovered that the fundamental equation of wellbeing: happiness equals reality minus expectations. I’m sure you’ve all heard this notion before. If you expect more from life than you currently have, you’ll be unhappy.Conversely, if your current experience exceeds your expectations, you’ll be happy. It’s a blessing that you expect nothing because it means that you have no attachment to the output and you can dedicate your full-attention to the input. When we’re too invested in the outcome and we fall short of achieving it, it’s disappointing. That’s a universal response. But that’s not to say we can’t celebrate the wins of life! Of course we can, and we should! But the focus here is we cannot expect them because that will affect the way we go about doing things. Now I must say, I’m not suggesting you don’t have any expectations for anything. I believe there are certain standards you must uphold for yourself and those around you to create your best environment, but I share this perspective because it might help you interrupt the pattern and give you a new way of thinking about your relationship with generating results.Turns out, low expectations are a key to happiness. There is a place for everything, in moderation. Expectations aren’t a bad thing in my view, I think they bring order to our world and keep us from living in our heads. What are your thoughts about expectations? Are yours too high or low? Or are you letting go of expectations altogether?Take Action:This week, reset an expectation: what is a more realistic and joyful goal? Then, refocus on the journey rather than the destination. What mountain can you climb that you will truly enjoy climbing, whether or not you ever make it to the top? How can you focus on the present moment — whatever you are doing right now — rather than setting big goals and high expectations for the future? And if you are itching to do more, why not get into an unambitious habit that down the road can pay big dividends?~Sonya, xoAre you striving to achieve clarity and confidence in your life?Find yourself frustrated from dealing with emotional eating, low energy, and under pressure to eliminate financial stress. Are you committed to accomplishing the promises you make to yourself and find that you are finally tired of living with the excuses and want help tackling it?It's time to take your life from unbearable to unstoppable, as you journey toward accomplishment, success, happiness, and health.Let's chat, book your discovery call here. https://linktr.ee/sonyajanisseDesign your Life, your way Accountability CoachNLP, HWL, PTSAccountability Coach ~ I help you keep your promises to yourself.Taking your life from unbearable to unstoppable. xoAuthor, Podcaster, Certified Coachhttps://linktr.ee/sonyajanissehttps://www.freshapproachfitness.com#podcaster #asksonya #keepyourpromises #awareness #serve #juststart #afreshapproach #chooseyouradventure #books #rediscoveryourself #essentiallyyou #sonyajanisse
I teach people how to treat me by what I will allow." Stephen Covey Let’s Dig DeeperThe big problem is that most people have it reversed. They have low standards but high expectations. In other words, most people will accept all kinds of bad behavior from other people (low standards), but then they’re pissed that they’re being treated that way (high expectations). If you want a happy and fulfilled life, you’ve got to identify your standards and stick to them while you balance keeping your expectations low. Usually, when I first talk about this concept I get pushback, but give me until the end of this episode and then see what you think.Your standards can also be thought of as your personal code — the rules that you set for yourself and follow in your life. They are also your ongoing processes — habits, behaviours and things you want to be consistently doingExpect and demand more from yourself and from those around you. If you really us. Have a key a change in your life you have to raise your standards, Have a zero tolerance policy for mediocrity, procrastination, and behavior that impedes your best performance.Your standards could be, for example, to always tell the truth, to always be punctual, to really listen to people until they are finished, and so on. Hold yourself to high standards and - what is of the same or even more importance - set boundaries for those around you!Boundaries are things that people simply can't do to you like yelling at you, make stupid jokes around you, or disrespect you. Communicate clearly and make it a habit to address anything that bothers you on the spot.RDetermine where to raise the standardMost of us have numerous areas of life where we could raise our standards. Three of the most common are creating healthy relationships, finding a fulfilling career path and improving our health.RelationshipsYour relationship is a direct reflection of your standards. Some people are in a relationship but they aren’t happy – because their standard is that they must be in any relationship, not that they must be in a relationship with passion and excitement that cultivates pure joy and love. Others may not be in a relationship because their standard is to never get hurt.Career“Your income right now is a result of your standards, it is not the industry, it is not the economy.” If you are not making the money you desire, you haven’t reached the position you want or you are stuck in an unfulfilling career, it’s because your standard is to accept any offer that comes your way. Raise your standards, and you’ll raise your worth.HealthOur health is also the result of our standards. Many people wish they were thinner, healthier or more fit. But expecting something and willing it is not the same thing. You must raise the standard for your health by making it a “must.” Tell yourself that you must get healthy in order to lead an extraordinary life. How can you raise your standards?Step one: Determine how you think about yourselfStep two: Break through your limiting beliefsAction Steps:Write down the following things:Things you will no longer accept in your life. All the behaviors you will no longer tolerate from others. All the things you want to become.Next:Identify Your DealbreakerIdentifying Your StandardsRemember what the proverb says: "In the right tone you can say everything, in the wrong tone nothing, the art is to find the right tone".Practice saying things in a neutral tone of voice like you'd say "the sun is shining" If somebody is overstepping your boundaries inform them: "I didn't like that comment" or "I don't like you talking to me in that tone". If they go on, request them to stop: "I ask you to stop talking to me like this". By now most people should get it, but there are always one or two that continue. If that happens - insist: "I insist that you stop talking to me in that way." If all three steps don't help - leave! Walk away neutrally stating "I can't have this conversation, while you are Let's talk later."Be sure to subscribe, like and comment to see a Fresh Approach show up in your feed :)👉Book a connect call here www.calendly.com/sonyajanisse👉Membership group, 'Essentially You'Register here- https://forms.gle/Fm383zkcVbAtbqGp9xx,Sonya#asksonya #afreshapproach #nervoussystem #actingasif #essentiallyyou #lifecoach #lifestyleblogger #quickclips #sonyajanisse #podcaster #knowyourself #storytime #celebrateeverything #whatisyourstandard

In today's episode, we are talking about the work from home flow. I share the details of my daily routine, the power of clothes, and why flow is so important to me, As tempting as it is to stay swaddled in a robe from your morning coffee all the way to wine o’clock, putting an outfit together is good for mental health, and fashion brands have leaned heavily into loungewear to meet homebound consumers where they’re at. Stretchy bottoms, plush sweatshirts, and fuzzy slippers PLUS a pop of color and mood-boosting items that bring lightheartedness to a period in time that’s felt anything but breezy. Here are a few takeaway tips. Have a routine. Communicate expectations with anyone who will be home with you. Take clear breaks. Interact with other humans. Get outside Prepare meals the night before. Pick a definitive finish time. Eat and sleep. Talk to your employer. Join a remote-friendly company. Start a career as a freelancer. Start a home business. https://linktr.ee/sonyajanisse
