Emma (00:19): -but modern libraries, especially in towns or communities that are larger and have better support, they have all kinds of cool stuff. You can check out, not only books, movies, video games, board games, audio books, even- you can get an app where you can download eBooks and they sometimes have like computer labs or recording studios. Dialogue Emma (00:02): Welcome to an English practice conversation about planning a trip with Dialogue Frog. I really wanna plan a trip. It's been a very long time since I've traveled anywhere. Luke (00:15): Oh yeah? How long? Emma (00:17): Oh man. Must be like three or four years at least. Luke (00:20): That's rough. Emma (00:21): Yeah, it is. So, I've been kinda thinkin' about where it is I wanna go. Luke (00:27): Oh yeah? Emma (00:28): I really wanna travel internationally, but I feel like it'd be cheaper to travel domestic. Luke (00:34): That's true. It's not quite as adventurous though. Emma (00:40): Oh, I don't know. You can have lots of different kinds of adventures. There's different trips, right, for different people. You could go to the beach. You could go to the ocean or you could go up to the mountains. Do hiking. Or you could go to one of the big cities and go to a bunch of museums. There's actually, I kind of wanna go to there's this bookstore I wanna visit, um, in Chicag
Transcript Emma (00:01): Welcome to another practice English conversation about planning a trip with Dialogue Frog. So we're gonna talk about this some more because I really, really, really wanna plan a trip. Luke (00:14): You know, I'm starting to believe that you wanna plan a trip. Emma (00:17): I do! How did you know? Luke (00:20): Just, just a hunch. Emma (00:21): It was a good hunch. You have good intuition. Luke (00:23): Thanks. Emma (00:24): Yeah. But yeah, so Chicago, right? I wanna go to Chicago. So, now I'm starting to think about logistics. So, how do I get there? When should I go? 'Cause I have to take off of work. I have to plan enough time to, to ask for time off, um, to get a vacation. So, I'm thinking maybe I'll do a four day trip. Luke (00:42): Mm. Emma (00:43): But Chicago is kind of up north and it gets cold relatively early in the year. Luke (00:48): Yeah. Emma (00:49): But also in the summertime, 'cause it's in the Midwest, the US Midwest, it can get hot and humid,
Transcript Luke (00:02): You're listening to Dialogue Frog's short English conversations. So, on the way to work this morning came across something, something kinda, some kinda bad news. Emma (00:17): Oh, that doesn't sound good. Luke (00:20): Yeah. Well, it's not really news. I guess it's more. Well, I'll tell you what. I was just, I was driving. Emma (00:27): Mm-hmm. Luke (00:27): And then I encountered road work. Emma (00:31): Oh, construction! That's awful. Luke (00:33): That's true. Emma (00:35): So you didn't know that it was coming? Luke (00:37): No, there was a sign warning me that said 'expect delays,' but it was like right there. So, it's like, how can I expect the delay when it's right there? Emma (00:45): The delay is in progress. The delay is happening now. Luke (00:49): Yep. Emma (00:50): Uh, road work is awful. And so then when you try, like it gets so backed up and then the people around you start getting angry, and it kind of becomes unsafe because people start driving
Transcript Emma (00:03): Welcome to conversations in English with Dialogue Frog. So, there's a lot of different community resources, right? So, you know how there's the rec center? The recreation center? Luke (00:17): Yeah. Emma (00:17): Have you ever signed up for one of their classes? Luke (00:21): I have not. Emma (00:23): 'Cause like, normally for like a small fee, usually less than a hundred dollars, you can do like a fitness class or a martial arts class or a swimming class or yoga class. Luke (00:35): Mm-hmm. Emma (00:37): Although I actually, I also saw like a woodworking one. Luke (00:40): Really? Emma (00:40): But I was kind of thinking of maybe doing one of the fitness classes. Luke (00:45): Hm. Emma (00:46): It's like, I don't know, two weeks later in the summer. Costs about $85 and you go in the evenings couple times a week. Luke (00:55): That could be cool. Emma (00:57): I'm not really much of a gym person. Are you a gym person? Luke (01:02): Um, no. I'm a kitchen person.
Transcript Emma (00:02): You are listening to a short dialogue in English with Dialogue Frog. I've been shopping lately. Luke (00:11): It can be a bad habit. Emma (00:14): Yeah. Well, I don't shop that often, actually. I'm not, not a chronic shopper like some people. Luke (00:20): You say that with a certain gleam in your eye. Emma (00:22): Mm-hmm. Luke (00:22): As you look towards me. Emma (00:23): Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Don't click that add to cart button every time you see a website, just sometimes. Luke (00:32): Hey, sometimes it says add to bag. So, I'm, I'm fine as long as it doesn't say add to cart. Emma (00:39): Oh, okay. There's a line there. Luke (00:41): It's true. Emma (00:43): But I was shopping for shoes and I don't really like shopping for shoes on the internet. Luke (00:48): Hard to gauge, like what it'll feel like on your foot. Emma (00:51): Yeah, 'cause like shoes more so than any other kind of clothes. Like it needs to fit in a certain way and sizes across all companies isn
Transcript Emma (00:02): You are listening to Dialogue Frog's conversations for practicing English. You went to the pizza food truck, and you went without me. Luke (00:16): I did bring you pizza though. Emma (00:17): You did. That's true. Luke (00:18): You can't- you can't accuse me of that. Emma (00:22): But I kinda wanted to see it too. So, can you tell me what was the pizza truck like? Luke (00:29): Um, they had, it was kind of cool. They had a little miniature brick oven built in, so they would, uh, cook their crusts and then, um, assemble it or maybe I got that backwards. They probably assembled it and then cooked, cooked it. But either way there was cooking and there was assembling. Emma (00:47): So, let me, lemme try and understand this. So, the vehicle, the, the auto automotive, the automobile is separate from the fireplace where they cooked the pizza. Luke (00:59): No, it's built in to the, to the truck part. Emma (01:03): Oh, it is? Luke (01:04): Uh. Emma (01:04): So, like th
Transcript Emma (00:02): Welcome to a practice English dialogue with Dialogue Frog. So, Luke, what have you been up to lately? Luke (00:10): Um, not much. What about you? Emma (00:15): Oh, just the usual. I had to run some errands the other day, but because of the holiday, I encountered some problems. Luke (00:22): Uh oh. Were people partying? Emma (00:24): Well, I mean, there was that. That's true, but more like, whenever there's a holiday, depending on the holiday, sometimes some places are closed, right? Luke (00:33): Yeah. That's true. Emma (00:35): So, in this case, it was, uh, the 4th of July on Monday, right, and the 4th of July in America is what's called a, a federal holiday, but also sometimes it's called a banking holiday. Luke (00:47): Oh yeah. Emma (00:47): And so when we call it a banking holiday it's because the banks are closed. And so sometimes you can go to, for example, the gas station, but you can't go to the bank because the bank will be closed for the, for the fed

So, when it's summer and it's hot like this, do you prefer to be outside in the heat or do you like to be inside in the air conditioner? Luke (00:22): Um, I don't like to be in the air conditioner 'cause there's blades spinning and stuff, but- Emma (00:27): Aha aha aha. Luke (00:29): But when I'm just inside the house or the building or whatever it may be, I much prefer that. Emma (00:35): You prefer to be in air condition- and in, in, in an air-conditioned room. Luke (00:38): Mm-hmm. Emma (00:39): You know, I actually prefer to be in a place that doesn't have air conditioning. I like, I think it, I think it's better for the body to kind of be in the environment. So, to acclimate to the environment around you, whatever the temperature is. And of course, unless it's super extreme, if it's extremely c
Transcript Emma (00:02): Welcome to Dialogue Frog's short dialogues. Something very boring happened to me. It's really weird to begin a story that way, but something boring happened to me. Emma (00:26): I cleaned my room, but I got rid of some furniture. So now I have like more space and I'm really excited about it. Luke (00:32): Very nice. Emma (00:33): Like when it's, when the weather gets warm or something, sometimes you get this urge to have change in your life. And so sometimes for me, at least, like if I change the furniture in my room then I kind of fill that need of change in my life. And so, in this case, I was able to get rid of a big shelf unit and actually gave it to Rachel. She wanted it. And so, I gave Rachel my big shelf unit and I was able to put my chair in there. And so now I have this really cozy place for

I want to see all the dinosaurs and the, um, fossils. Emma (00:29): They do have a lotta cool stuff there, I've heard. So they have, they do have, like you said, they have the different dinosaur bones and various fossils, but they also have, uh, not extinct animals. So it's like taxidermy. I don't know that if cool is the right word, but it's an interesting way, uh, to kind of learn about the different animals in the area. Luke (00:51): Uh-huh. Emma (00:52): They do have some living st- living animals there too, you know? Luke (00:55): Oh yeah? Emma (00:56): Yeah. You might not like it though, 'cause you know what it is? Luke (01:00): What?
