This episode welcomes the JA Fellows Company Program students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School's Good Scents. Good Scents started off with a citrus scented oil to help combat decreased energy and poor moods and to help improve daily functions. Their product line now includes an air freshener and they have expanded their scents to include lemongrass, peppermint, grapefruit, cinnamon and much more. These students were not only tasked with creating their product, but they also had to budget, plan, market and sell their finished product. “JA has taught me numerous skills, including marketing a business, project management, and presenting myself professionally. It has allowed me to further enhance and develop my skills in hospitality, finance and marketing,” said Hunter Dorman, President of Good Scents. This episode welcomes Gregory Haile, President of Broward College. Gregory is the seventh president of Broward College. He assumed the role on July 1, 2018. Prior to his appointment, President Haile served as the General Counsel and Vice President for Public Policy and Government Affairs for Broward College from September 2011 to June 2018. Prior to joining Broward College, he was a corporate litigator. Gregory Haile is a public servant, community leader, and an accomplished educator. He has championed his community by serving on over 35 board or committee capacities and in over 20 Chair/President or Vice-Chair/President positions. Further, he and his family routinely volunteer their time to serve local charities and communities. He has also received dozens of recognitions for his leadership, service, and excellence in his profession. He routinely serves as a keynote speaker at events, primarily speaking on the transformational power of higher education. As an educator, Mr. Haile takes time annually to teach a self-designed 4-credit course in Higher Education Law and Policy at Harvard University (Summer School). He previously served as an adjunct professor with Broward College, teaching Business Law and Ethics, and with Miami Dade College, teaching Business Law (self-designed). Mr. Haile was educated at the Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and served as the Editor-in-Chief of the National Black Law Journal and as an Editor of the Journal on Gender and Law. He received his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University, where he graduated magna cum laude and received the Most Outstanding Graduate award in his college. He received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Nova Southeastern University and is also a fellow of the Vanderbilt University Higher Education Management Institute. Germ Genie came up with an airplane tray table cover to help limit the spread of tray table bacteria and viruses. Their product line has diversified as well, and now includes a travel pack with face masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, disinfectant wipes and a head rest cover. This student company has been successful in bringing in revenue and partnering with other businesses to bring awareness to their product.  The team won the JA Company of the Year Award locally and was one of two teams invited to compete at the 2020 JA USA National Student Leadership Summit. There, the students won 2nd Place in the National JA Company of the Year, as well as won The ICE NYSE Foundation Best Financial Performance Award and Delta Social Impact Award. George S. Derek Cooper serves as Comcast’s Vice President of Government Affairs & Community Investment for the Florida Region, which includes the State of Florida, Southern Georgia and Southern Alabama.  In this role, Derek leads all government and regulatory affairs, and community impact initiatives for the Region, including Comcast Cares Day (the nation’s largest single-day corporate service event with over 100,000 volunteers), Comcast Foundation Grants, Comcast’s Leaders & Achievers Scholarships, the airing of Public Service Announcements, and Comcast’s Internet Essentials program – the national’s largest and most comprehensive internet adoption program for low-income families in America.   Through the great work and collaboration of Derek’s team members and the many public and community partnerships here in Florida, Comcast has connected more than 500,000 low-income Floridians to the internet, and more than 4 million low-income Americans through the program.
