Our stories can change in an instant. Barry Adkins, author, speaker, and father of Kevin, who died of alcohol poisoning the next he moved out of his parent's home at age 18, sits down with Dr Shafer to share Kevin's story and how Barry is working tirelessly to change the lives of youth across the country by sharing Kevin's story. Barry shares his journey of grief, the importance of educating young people about the dangers of binge drinking, and how he turned his loss into a mission to raise awareness. Barry emphasizes the need for open conversations about alcohol and decision-making, the significance of forgiveness, and the power of sharing personal stories in authentic ways to connect with young adults and teens. Barry shares the challenges he faced on his walk from Arizona to Montana carrying his son's ashes, and how losing his son and sharing Kevin's story has changed his life. Alcohol poisoning, or overdose, occurs when enough alcohol is ingested that the liver can't process alcohol quickly enough. This leads to high blood alcohol concentrations that are toxic to the body, with effects from impaired brain functions like breathing and heart rate, as experienced by Barry's son, Kevin. Each year, thousands of people across the US die of alcohol poisoning. Education can be key to prevent unnecessary deaths. Please share this episode with someone  you think it could help: you may just safe a life. Thank you Barry Adkins for being a Guest on Talks with Dr Shafer!Learn more about Barry Adkins, Kevin's Story and his mission here: https://kevinslastwalk.com/Get Your Copy of Kevin's Last Walk by Barry Adkins here:https://kevinslastwalk.com/shortcodes/Contact Barry Adkins for Speaking Engagements and School Visits here: https://kevinslastwalk.com/contact/Dr Shafer Stedron, MD is a musician turned Neurologist, a mom, a Jay Shetty-Certified Life Coach, an Author, Publisher, and so much more.
