© 2019 - Anna Packer and Katie Snyder - Practical Encouragement for Pursuing Your Life Passions
Description
Why is it that often the things you want to do the most in life come with the most fear attached? We unpack this question, while having conversations with people from all walks of life, about the scary things that they’re pursuing in their own lives. We work from an inclusive belief that everyone is creative and share our own scary things, because we realize that is the first step in encouraging people to do things that are scary for them. We want to build a community of people encouraging others to do things that might not come naturally at first, but will bring a lot of joy into life. Consider this your invitation to join us on Thursdays as we release new content every other week!

Visual artist Josie Lewis joins us today to share what happened after she experienced tragedy, lost motivation, and then found flow. She shares how the act of pulling out her watercolors and painting shapes and rainbows changed her life and how the internet found her the very first time she posted a time lapse online. She describes in detail how Flow helps quiet our inner critic and why it's okay that being an internet sensation means dealing with trolls, too. Thanks for joining us today for a minisode with Katie all about what to do when you're feeling grumpy. Because, guess what, no matter how successful you get in life, you are always going to have grumpy days. Shame tells us we should work more, be more grateful, or not need to take breaks. But, in reality, we are multi-faceted humans who are all dealing with a lot on any given day and when our minds and bodies tell us we need a break, we should listen. The truth is that you get to create whatever kind of life you want, and it doesn't have to look like any one else's life! This episode reminds us to spend our days in ways that have and add value to our lives. Mary Hyatt is someone everyone needs to know! She is a life and mindset coach, born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee who works with female entrepreneurs, helping them find a balance between masculine and feminine energy and helping them get turned back on for life. She hosts the amazing Living Fully Alive podcast that we highly recommend! Mary shares her story from 8 years ago of finding herself in a place of "what happened". It was an awakening moment and it's from this place that she is able to help clients from a place of non-judgement and empathy. She talks with us about the importance of feeling difficult emotions and how to remember the tools that you have during difficult times like the recent Nashville tornadoes and the current COVID-19 pandemic, such as mindfulness practices, meditation, prayer, centering yoga and more. She describes the compassionate energy we should have for ourselves during this time when we are all working our way through the stages of grief, and the importance of giving yourself grace! She reminds us that we are fully resourceful, we can pivot in business to figure this out, there is light at the end of the tunnel and that love always wins. "People survive, adapt, and evolve! We get through hard things. We got this!" Mary is launching a new membership site soon, so be sure to connect with her and check it out! ---------------- Connect with us online! https://www.facebook.com/doingscarythings/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7wZ63VjnGKLlU50_59ksjg Email us! doingscarythingspod@gmail.com Instagram: @doingscarythings @thekatiesnyder @annaesthetic23 #doingscarythings Schedule your Free Coaching Consultation with Katie!
Mary Caroline Russell is an entertainment photographer who started shooting with disposable cameras ten years ago while living in a small Texas town. Now she travels the world with musicians on tours. She shares with us how she built this career without knowing it was even an option, how she got her start back in those myspace days, and why handling each job with care makes a difference. We discuss why knowing your gear well is better than having all the gear, what tour life and being around people 24/7 is really like, and the importance of having community and surrounding yourself with people who will tell you the truth. MC describes the trickiness that is having creativity as a profession and what it's really been like as a female in the industry. Lastly, she gets really honest about taking things one day at a time as a freelancer and how to trust your gut and core values, even when there are well-intentioned naysayers. Welcome! Today on the pod, Anna shares her thoughts about the practice of gratitude. She recorded this minis ode before the current chaos of our world struck, however we think it's especially relevant today! She discusses the importance of gratitude when all is going well AND when it isn't, and that it can make your present situation more rewarding and provide a necessary, helpful perspective. Anna gives us a practical list of things we can be grateful for each day. It can be so helpful to acknowledge what we DO have going for us, and while gratitude does not nullify a problem, it helps us move forward healthily, and is a tool to navigate challenges and relationships in your life. We hope you'll join us in adding gratitude to your daily life! ---------------- Connect with us online! https://www.facebook.com/doingscarythings/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7wZ63VjnGKLlU50_59ksjg Email us! doingscarythingspod@gmail.com Instagram: @doingscarythings @thekatiesnyder @annaesthetic23 #doingscarythings Schedule your Free Coaching Consultation with Katie!
Today we have the distinct honor of celebrating our 50TH EPISODE with Dr. Jerome Lubbe, the ONLY board certified functional neurologist in Atlanta. Dr. Jerome specializes in complex, unresolved cases, and in general, teaches people how to use and strengthen their brain. Additionally, he is the author of Whole-Identity: A Brain-Based Enneagram Model for (W)holistic Human Thriving. Dr. Jerome gets really vulnerable with us about why he became a doctor after being a patient for 20 years and suffering debilitating migraines during that time and still today. He shares that his goal is to help find everyone some sort of improvement in their pain. We talk about how to remain hopeful, even when in terrible pain, and we ask him to explain in detail how our brains deal with fear. We discuss the difference in self-care and self-help, and, OF COURSE, we get his fascinating take on his own interpretation of the Enneagram and why none of us are just ONE type. Today we talk with performance coach, show doctor, & host whisperer, Bill Cakmis. Bill has worked with some HUGE celebrities, athletes, politicians, & people from all walks of life and shares a few of their stories here. Bill tells us all about his varied career - being on stage since age 6 - and how he grew his business to be THE person who people call when they need a problem solved. We talk a lot about the importance of trying things even if you might fail and why failing at things is a necessary part of the process. Bill shares that failure does not define us and shouldn't make us afraid to live our lives. He also wisely says, "It takes as long as it takes," and shares that of all the people he's ever worked with, none of them accomplished what they initially set out to, even though they eventually did find success. (Things don't go according to plans, but sometimes they go better.) Lastly, we discuss the importance of having gratitude every day, especially for having the opportunity to try different things out, and what he calls that pesky fear voice in his head. To buy Bill's books, simply search 'Cakmis' on Amazon. ---------------- Connect with us online! https://www.facebook.com/doingscarythings/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7wZ63VjnGKLlU50_59ksjg Email us! doingscarythingspod@gmail.com Instagram: @doingscarythings @thekatiesnyder @annaesthetic23 #doingscarythings Schedule your Free Coaching Consultation with Katie!
Today we have the great pleasure of talking with Audrey Hall - who started taking photos in 1991 and since then has created a full career including being an artist, commercial photographer, and now the scariest thing yet for her, music. After experiencing severe burnout and losing "my passion for what I do", Audrey pursued "a path of joy", trying many different new things. Music was the thing that stuck. She talks with us about how scary it is to be a beginner at something after having proficiency in another craft. She shares a hilarious story about how even her friend and neighbor Jeff Bridges gets nervous, but, in his words, "the experience makes it all worth it." Audrey smartly shares that, "It's okay to be afraid," and explains how nerve is a great tool to keep you present and paying attention. We discuss how, as a culture, we are encouraged to specialize and master ONE thing, but as Audrey points out - "people have depth." She describes the journey she's been on with creating music and asking herself, "How can I be most authentically me? And how do I put that into the world?" We also discuss masculine vs feminine energy and not indulging the culture of "busy", and Audrey gives great advice to any one looking to transition out of their 9-5. Audrey advises surrounding yourself with people better than you and says, "Making art is one of the bravest things you can do." Today we are talking with Makaila Borgerson about both her brilliant career creating art and her experience with her own mental health diagnosis. She bravely shares that, though this is a part of her, it does not define her. She shares what this journey has been like for her & how she has learned more about herself from creating her art. We also talk about a ton of different concepts in this episode. Namely: -Taking care of yourself & being kind to yourself, even (& especially) when you don't have it all together! -When it's hard to talk about & share your art -Digging deeper into life & paying attention to who your real friends are -Being scared -Not liking your current or past work, but knowing you can't get to your next & better work without creating it first -Processing life & emotions and the "tortured artist" scenario -Sharing your heart through your work is so vulnerable! -Comparing yourself & creating from your true self // doing what's truest for you. -Makaila's amazing life's work of creating maps of places from her life -What happens when you take the foot off of a sewing machine -You don't always have to sell your art. -Taking a break & then starting to create again. -Working with only what you already have. -Not stopping when things get uncomfortable: When we get stick, we're probably resisting something. ---------------- Connect with us online! https://www.facebook.com/doingscarythings/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7wZ63VjnGKLlU50_59ksjg Email us! doingscarythingspod@gmail.com Instagram: @doingscarythings @thekatiesnyder @annaesthetic23 #doingscarythings Schedule your Free Coaching Consultation with Katie!
Today we are talking with Melisa Celikel, owner of Make Sht Happen, LLC about how she left her 15 year corporate career working for Fortune 500 companies to creating a career she didn't want for herself, to once again pivoting and finally creating a job she loves! We ask her about being a first generation US Citizen, as well as what it was like to become an entrepreneur with no prior experience and without her parents' understanding. Melisa tells us all about her organizational work with her clients and how it has everything to do with Mindset. She also explains the journey of figuring out that even though she is highly analytical, that she is also creative and when she couldn't find a "creative group" for people like her, she created her own in order to find her tribe. We discuss our shared disdain for all of those "5 steps to success" plans out there and she shares how she walks her clients through strategic planning to get them to where they want to be. Melisa shares the bravery it took to go back to a 9-5 job on her own terms and how damaging it can be to imagine what others will think of you. Lastly, she shares with us that "Action cures fear," so you should take the messy action and live with no regrets! Dr. Matt Smith has a revolutionary approach to health, healing and maximizing human potential. We loved getting to chat with him about what kind of services he offers his clients and what it’s been like opening his own business. Along with his wife, Dr. Monica Smith, the Dr.’s own Rev Center for Optimal Living in Chattanooga, TN. He is a chiropractor by license but has a very different approach than what you typically think of from a chiropractic office. Dr. Matt's focus is really on the nervous system and helping people overcome chronic stresses and challenges that have been built up in their body that are preventing them from living their absolute best life. Dr. Matt tells the story of how he and his wife came to learn their unique method and what that journey has been like up to this point, including really understanding the nervous system, the bio energetics of the body, how our nervous system processes life experiences, and how they get trapped in our body. He goes on to explain that as we begin to integrate and process those things built up within our body, we can express higher levels of health, well being and vitality. And then learning to be more adaptable, more resilient to the future stresses and challenges that come our way and moving through those things faster. Dr. Matt not only works with nervous system health, but also with personal growth and development, learning about energy and quantum physics, vibration, and tone energy. We also discuss how this entire world and universe is actually made up in a whole different paradigm of understanding, and how cultivating hope for people can sometimes make the biggest difference. This was an absolutely fascinating talk and one that has transformed our personal lives in a big way. Send us a note to let us know what you think of this episode! If anyone is looking for permission to take their dreams from "No way", to "What if....", all the way to "Let's go", here 👏 it 👏 is 👏. Anna and Katie brilliantly remove the limits from what it means to be both creative and brave, and give so much insight into how living the life you want goes hand in hand with doing scary things. Required listening for anyone with life goals that still seem too far out of reach.
Listened to Part A with goosebumps all ovahh. Sound quality is top notch, humor on point, and vulnerable genuineness that inspired the actual hell out of me. 11/10 would recommend listening if you are hesitant to take a leap of faith.
